Unusable land at edge of world - entire east edge

The entire east edge of the world has a defect that makes the last 4 meters or so useless. The defect is that the world drops down about 35 meters to a ledge about 1 meter wide. It looks like a little sidewalk hidden 35 meters below the main land mass. Except for plots that block entry you could walk from Coniston to Weber hidden from view. It is kinda funny as there are boats, trees and building parts down there all apparently lost. However if you happen to own the land you are paying land fees on land you cannot really use for anything. The defect affects about the last 4 meters of the eastern edge. Currently I have about 512 sq meters lost to the defect. I posted a message in SLLM and then e-mailed support with no real answer for the last 3 weeks.

If anyone out there owns edge of world land on the easternmost sims you are losing a fair chunk of land to the defect. My thought is that it should either be fixed or a credit for the unusable land should be arraged for owners of the defective land. I have considered releasing the land to the public so i would not have to pay for it but also am not keen to have someone building on a 4 meter wide strip.

Has anyone else noticed the defect? I'd be interested to hear any comments on the problem. Any ideas on how to get the Lindens moving to fix it?

Anyone on the east edge of these sims is affected:

Coniston
Keswick
Caldbeck
Sawrey
Lonsdale
Rydal
Huron
Abitibi
Louise
Nipigon
Simcoe
Seneca
Walleye
Drum
Newman
Hennepin
Winyah
Starr
Wall
Keener
Pero
DeCheau
Fletcher
Sand
No
Kress
Weber

By my calculations there is an area of about 27000 sq meters affected by the defect.

When I lived in Star, it didn't bother me since the prims are available to use anywhere on your parcel. I had a fairly large plot there but I can understand your frustration if you have a smaller plot where area is an issue. For me, it's always been about prim shortage not the square footage.

Just wondering, do array indexes start at zero or one?

speculation: there was an unsupervised VB programmer on the loose in the C++ code. ;)

I own a large stretch of it in Caldbeck. It's where I threaten to put prims that are misbehaving. >:]

My post in "Linden Hotline" got moved to "support archive"
07-15-2005 16:21
It got moved and still there was no comment. I am not sure whether that is a good thing or a bad thing.

I would just like to know whether it will be fixed or not. So far I have been told that it would be fixed by Sand maintenance but after 3 weeks nothing has been fixed. Frankly I am just getting frustrated that there has been no coherent response to my posts. If they said "we are aware of the problem but are not going to do anything about it" I would not be happy about it but at least I would know what is happeining. In a way I am happy - if it cannot be fixed most likely they will not be adding sims to the east edge. For those who like edge of world and cannot afford an island the east edge looks like it will be edge of world for the forseeable future. Buy 100m around the edge and you can have privacy for less than it would cost in a non-edge sim.

I know they have a lot of problems more urgent than mine - TP problems, lost inventory, etc. - but it would still be nice after a month to have some answer.

Here is a link to the last response in Second Life Land Management:

/145/74/52866/1.html

I guess they are saying "tough luck".

It would seem that the issue is useful for knowledge about SL as it does affect a lot of sims and a lot of land. If you are buying in one of those sims I am sure you would want to know about the problem. So it got moved to "support archive" which can be searched but is basically a dumping ground. I guess it was considered either redundant or a rant. It is a sad state when lack of response to paying customers inspires them to "rant" or post "redundant" requests. So far it has been over a month since the first post.

I am sorry but I am not satisfied by the responses to date.

What techniques have been productive for getting responses to problems SL would rather not deal with head on? If anyone has advice I would love to hear it.
