My guess is the weekend. Check tomorrow (Monday during business hours) and see if they add any. Bump this post up if not.

Post in the "Hotline to Lindens" forum too maybe, to get an official reply.

Alt accounts are not eligible for First Land.

I have noticed the pool of First Land is now routinely smaller than it used to be and is added as the available is taken. It takes greater patience to shop for your First Land plot now, there is less each day and the mix changes daily.

Um, outta curiousity, have you ever tried getting first land with an Alt?

No, I havent. I was under that impression from awhile back. Maybe it changed, buggy, or I am just wrong. If it is bad info, please correct me and accept my apologies.

Well about 5 months back, I created an Alt for a friend of mine, she managed to get first land, and I had already gotten mine 7 months before, so unless they have changed it since then... only reason I was asking :)

I have enquired around on this point, and I found someone who said she had tried it, and found the limit on creating alts was indeed 5, who each could get first land. But further credit cards were rejected, thus calling a halt to her shennanigens. She thinks it must be done on zip code, not card number, whatever they say to the contrary.

So my guess is the "endless alts" thing is a myth, but the grabbing of first land by up to 5 is not.

The morality of this, and its effect on the economy, needs to be thought about. I guess they would argue that they just started paying another $10 a month, and its a recognition of that. No first land, no $10 per month. Which is more worth having to the other players? To LL ? Since the first land gives you a profit of maybe L$3000 = US$12, you might say it is recovered pretty quickly. Calculate it another way, you might say it is not.

Whatever the outcome, there should surely be a flow of first land sufficient to give Oerbe what he needs, and quick.

Yeah I created 5 alts, mostly for my friends, but two of them went inactive, so I tried making one for myself on another Credit Card and it wouldn't allow it, ended up using my ex's card (with his permission) of course, so I don't think its done on Zip Code (or post code for us brits) as it allowed him to create one.

Now I come to think about it, why are alts frowned upon at all? Surely they are a substantial benefit to the community if the owner only plays one at a time? Five alts will each on average only consume one fifth the server resources the same player would without them, and cause one fifth the lag. Yet they each pay the full whack, as though they were five separate dedicated players.

Another way of saying it is that he pays five times over for the same amount of resource consumption. You could make a case that alts should be brought in from the cold, and encouraged, by offering, for example, the third to fifth at half price. Assuming they are legally tied together, so that only one can be online at a time.

Now theres a novel viewpoint. How can we fault that argument?

What other benefits ? Help reduce disputes because a player who backs himself into a corner can kill off that personality and make a better fresh start with his neighbours?

I'd better stop. Off topic. Needs a thread of its own. Can anybody be bothered to bump an old one? I expect it exists.

In fact, the Lindens often put out new land very late at night EST -- it is in fact morning in Europe when they do it, so it is the first thing of the day for Europeans, and often put out long after people even on the West Coast are asleep.

The Lindens were putting out land at the rate of about 12 pieces a day for months. Nobody complained. Then, they put out a huge whack of it -- hundreds of pieces. This was probably as part of their strategy to put in a land glut with the New Continent -- many of the pieces were on the New Continent.

They continue to put it out at the rate of some 12 pieces a day, but they get used up fast. Seeing as how there are requests for more, they're likely to shovel out a new bunch of it.

Another factor is that the Lindens recently moved all their offices. So their to-do lists are more backed up than usual. I don't think they are settled yet. This is a shop with only like 30 people in it, so it's a lot of work.

One way the Lindens used to create more first-land is take all that abandoned land left by people who quit the game or didn't pay their bills, and recycle it as "first land". Some of this would be pretty much Purina, but it would happen that way that a first land that had sat collecting prim garbage for months would be put back in the game, then people living on that sim could then either make an alt, or bring a friend into the sim to buy that first land. There is loads of that stuff backed up now -- I've reported some of it, as have others on the land management list, and it's on the to-do list I guess. I think in a few weeks, we'll be seeing Lindens shovelling that out the door and that will help accommodate demand.

The problem with new land isn't alts. The problem is there is a lot of people coming into the game, and less people intimidated than there used to be about buying land more quickly as more and more people do it, see that they aren't "stuck" and in fact can have a good experience.

Oerbewustzijn Archer, you seem to be having a tough time in your game. I'd advise you to wait for the Linden Land that will definitely come up, and scour it for opportunities at telehubs, waterfront, mountainview, Linden roadside, etc. But if you just can't wait, I can offer you a 512 in Wakeley for $512. You'll likely be able to resell it for only $5/meter these days, even in mature and one sim removed from a telehub, but there it is, I offer it.

I vote this the most gratiutously long and driven-off-topic-to-forward-personal-business-ventures post. Ever.

I've provided some very important advice here -- about recycled first land. People should be looking around their sims for abandoned land and alerting the Lindens to recycle it. It's going to be crappy in some cases but people on that sim might then buy it.

I hardly think this is off topic -- an explanation of why there is less first land.

And it's hard for me to see how this furthes my personal business venture. I offer someone $512 of land at a huge loss to me just to get them over the hump here? And stop this general hysteria about first land? I hardly think so. It's a service.

I find that often in a case like this, when someone has made some untenable crack at me, what's happening is that national cultures are clashing. Most things "aggressive" Americans do anger Europeans and Asians -- and often needlesssly, because it's just a question of an unexamined prejudices (often they can't see how aggressive they are, in other ways). They aren't used to that aggressive, in-your-face, and brash style. They aren't use to such open forms of commerce and activity in public, being used to the kind of style of commerce that is more of the old-world, favour-banking, apprenticing, guild type rather than the more new-world marketplace and corporation. They get angry and then very condescending about the American style which they view as obnoxious and pugnacious. But Americans got that way, fleeing Europe and fleeing Asia because it was too repressive. This is an off-topic conversation. But I present it as the reason for a lot of clashes that occur in these forums, and which are generally unexamined regarding these factors, which definitely form the background.
