How much L$ do you get from each person for each 5 min period? And does that include yourself on your own land?

There is no direct correlation to the amount of L$ you get each night for dwell. There is a fixed pool of L$ set aside each night for dwell awards (adjusted by the Lindens every once in awhile). You are competing with all other land owners each night for that pool of L$.

Land owners are not counted towards the dwell calculation on land that they own. If it is grou p land, however, that doesn't apply.

Interesting, whats the rough guesstimated amount?

For the first 5 mins you get no dwell at all. Then for everysecond over 5 mins you get a proportion of that persons dwell 'allocation' for that day. The exact amount will depend on how long they stay online during the 24 hours, how long they are on your land, and how long they are on someone elses land. Then subtract the time spent on their own land (if applicable) and subtract time spent on Linden owned land and any other no-dwell land.

The time spent by one av on your land is accumulated through the 24 hour period, so 3 mins then a gap then a further 3 mins, (subtract the first 5 mins) gives 1 min of dwell.

Each land parcel you own is calculated seperately, so if you divided your 512m plot into 4 parcels an av could spend 20mins there and NOT score you any dwell.. Join all plots within a sim if possible...

Once you arrive at your final dwell value for the day, that is then put in a 'pot' with all the other dwell earners for the day and the total L$ dwell amount is divided up proportional to the dwell you collected...

Because it is proportional, if you spend time on someone else's land (and hence give them dwell) you not only increase their share, but you reduce your own, and everyone else that spends time on land other than yours is also reducing your share...

So you see, there are just to many variables and 'un-knowns' to guess a rough amount.

omg.... ask a simple question... get a "simple"...cough...cough...answer... well im going with it equals about L$1 per 5 mins per person... and that is final!... well thats how i think it should work! simple and easy! Who is with me? We will march, with our heads held high!

ok, let me try to put this simply... ...cough...cough...

Someone spending 10 mins on your land then logging off may gain you L$1 in dwell. You can even place a script on your land to log everyone who goes there, recording how long they stay to try to work out how much you think you'll get.

HOWEVER, and it's a big however... if those people spend time on someone else's land your dwell share WILL GO DOWN, and you have no way of knowing how long they are on someone else's land, hence you have no way of calculating, or even guessing at, your dwell amount. It's just not realistic to guess at L$1 per 5 mins, or L$1 per hour..

In an extreme example, only one person logs into SL in 24 hours... (unlikely, but it's an example). they spend 5 mins 30 seconds on your land then log off.. you will get the entire dwell pot for that day, however large that is...
Conversly, you hold an event and hundreds of people show up. They keep coming all day long, in fact the entire population hears about your event and comes along to see what's going on. But if each only stays for 4 mins. You would get NO DWELL. Nothing. Not a sausage. Zip.

Is that any simpler?

This is not how Dwell works
12-11-2004 19:08
A few weeks ago, i noticed my dwell and dwell payments started to drop. I asked the linds to audit the numbers, something was wrong. I also posted to this forum with the standard replies like in this email chain.

After some test on several properties, it is clear that that longer an AV stays on a property the higher the dwell.

An single av on a 512 plot can produce a dwell of 1,000.

Inscrutable Dwell

Go and read the thread on here called "Dwellfarers". There are miles and miles of posts, much of the mileage from me. I get it...but I don't get it. Like I don't get how the system put 210 into our group this week and debited out 300. Go know...

The equasion for dwell is...
(((Dots on Philip's pants * Number of chars Ben types on IRC) / Number of times someone bitchs about $$$) + llFrand() - llFreeMem() / (TH meetings this week * # of hours that AdamZ sleeps in a week) + (number of Posts by Nexus * Number of posts Jeska has closed))

That can't be right... surely it changes depending on whether the sim has DDRRAM or SDRAM, or if its using error correction or interleaving.

I think it was very irresponsible of you to post such a detailed account of how dwell actually works without pointing out all the variables properly..

The short answer is "not very much" :-)

Dwell is very overrated. Its main benefit is higher placement on the "find" list.
