Viral marketing (example: MetaAdverse billboard programs) and word-of-mouth.
The forums also kinda count, but that's external to SL itself. _____________________

Just spend some time in every major event/popular place. And talk about the Exellent product that you have made. Give free sample's to they event host and owner to get them excited.
Also you could give some to the populair bloggers, maybe they will write about it. |

the forums work well too...
and right about the giving samples to clubs that host events...they will promote your store for giving prizes to them. Also, the different radio stations may do commercials for you. Some charge some don't. That helps as well. |

I teach a marketing in SL class now and then and promote the very ideas people have already brought up in a larger context of people marketing versus paper marketing. Traditional paper dvertising doesn't work so well in the traditional sense in SL. Our X-gen heavy demographic distrusts anything that smells like manipulation or hype. What does work is building relationships.
I still hope to see 3D content makers pairing with events hosts to build events that will make their efforts visible. If you are a builder, sponsor a play by offering to build the set and make it gorgeous! If you are a shoe-maker, show those (hush)puppies off by giving them out as prizes at your favourite club, tossing in a free pair for the host so s/he can wear them through the event, reminding participants what they stand to win. Events are entirely underutilized as a method for advertizing. I hope new partnerships are in our future that can serve the dual purposes of keeping events afloat (maybe even invigorating the events schedule) while raising visibility for SL's amazingly talented 3D content makers. _____________________

Metaadverse works well for me. For things like my game show, many folks tell me they found the game for the first time because of the Metaadverse ad.
Event Posting is also key - as evidenced by last night when I forgot to post Payment Podium to the event calendar. We had a total of 15 folks show up - which were a mix of regulars, and folks who saw the Metaadverse ad. Typical turnout is 25-30. Find is important as well. If folks can't search for your location - the likelyhood they'll teleport there is reduced, and there are some folks that use it exclusively. I think the best thing buisness owners can do from a marketing perspective, is be cogniscant of the different ways people look for things to buy & things to do. There are folks like Khamon that exclusively use find - folks that tend to click & visit metaadverse ads - folks that pay attention to the event calendar - folks that read the forums - and still others that only pay attention to word of mouth. And of course, a combination of approaches. Having a broad marketing campaign that caters to many different types of residents is the best approach, IMHO. ![]() |

Perhaps a tantalizing combination of nudity and a sandwich board...

Stuff that is too forced is fakey-bakey. If you really enjoy a product and share it with friends, your passion will show to others it appeals to too. I suppose that is "viral marketing" with a dash of "virtual street cred" I like watching billboards go by, if you see the same one enough you may want to go check things out, altho I tend to visit on the first pass if I am intrigued.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viral_marketing Also, puns and humor go a long way, as well as SL-specific cultural references. Recent example to cite would be Wynx Whiplash's "Hoochie Hare". And oooh as for radio, it's the DJs that spin tunes inside of SL and between songs they can mention products and stuff. A well-known one is Dominik Bauer's ad for Francis Chung's weaponry (you can hear it in her product manuals... gosh that sounds so dry). ![]() _____________________

sounds like spam...? or are you working with the event host? I don't sell anything so i don't do any marketing. So no idea how good these ideas are. But i didn't mean you should spam the chat. You just talk with people and then slip in what you do and make, and what your latest addition is. That shouldn't be to hard, conversations allways quite down at some point and then you grab your change. Also if it is clothing, you could just change your clothes while your are talking. People will ask questions about it, and you can answer. Also about the event hosts, Persephone mentioned this aswell, is that you donate your product as a price that people can win. And if it is something that the event host can wear, then give them also one. So they can wear it and show the contestens what they can win. This is cool for the host, for the contestens and for you. I think winning a nice new produckt is more fun then 100L$. You should offcourse watch out that it doesn't become 1 big commercial. But just some info about the product at the begin and end of a event should be enough. |

what is viral marketing... i don't get the example. Viral marketing is marketing that makes you feel as if being personally infected is an acceptable alternative to viewing advertisements. For example, Metaadverse shitting up the landscape with billboards popped up in the middle of what once was scenic waterways. That is viral marketing. |

For example, Metaadverse shitting up the landscape with billboards popped up in the middle of what once was scenic waterways. That is viral marketing. Please note MetaAdverse does not own or setup any signs. We are simply an ad exchange network. We provide signs that publishers (land owners) can setup on their own land in accord with the strict placement guidelines we have established. We do not own the actual sign objects, decide where to place them, or rez them. If there is a particular sign or publisher you feel is violating our placement rules, feel free to file a report to support@metaadverse.com and your complaint will be reviewed. If in violation of the sign placement rules the publisher will be warned and/or removed from our network. We take such concerns very seriously since it is our best interest to maintain a happy medium between advertisers, publishers, and the community as a whole. We adhere to the Second Life Community Standards as defined by Linden Labs. We respect the rights of a land owners to use their property within the limitations of the Second Life Community Standards. We are not empowered to enforce or control the use of prims, objects, and/or signs on any publishers property beyond the explicit removal of a publisher from our service. |
