Because they're all on the stipend bandwagon right now.

From: Siggy Romulus I dont see any chicken little posts about the current L$ value? I've already provided an outlook in another thread. I'm pleased to see that my hold (or buy if brave) recommendation for this week turned out accurate. I have to assume that unless LL does something unusual the month and annual outlook will be equally accurate.

All the capitalist blowhards, who wouldn't know a capitalist system if it bit them in their bank accounts, are off in other threads screaming that stipends are socialism. Let's see, I pay Linden Labs for a service and they provide the service and somehow that's socialism, I'm on welfare, and I'm lazy to boot. What a crock of dootie.
Maybe, just maybe, the ability to buy $L from within SL is causing more people to buy and the currency isn't devaluing at the horrific rate of a few cents a month. Just maybe. Not being a Reserve Bank or a capitalistic legend, I wouldn't really know.

I'm on the Welfare Express!

From: Joy Honey pffft you know you're just in SL for the "welfare". Go get a SL job What is the basic stipend right now worth, about 20 US cents a week. So a basic account holder who logs in every week for a whole year will net about $10.40! Woah! Now that's what I call welfare! Let's see, if a basic account guy or gal spends 5 minutes every week logging on and off SL for a whole year that would come to 4 hours and 20 minutes of work. That comes to about $2.40 an hour. I'm getting in on this cash cow! Yeehah! Welfare City here I come!

Not being a Reserve Bank or a capitalistic legend, I wouldn't really know. Most of us enjoy our experiences in SL or we wouldn't be here. It just absolutly floors me when I see others trying to curb enjoyment of others. Trying to make others feel bad, about how they enjoy SL is a pretty wierd concept but it happens all to often. I don't see us gaining anything by taking more away. I already feel squeezed beyond my comfort level, and I have no intention of treating sl like a job. It's my entertainment. Squeeze hard enough and I too would scale back in SL and spend my disposable income being entertained elsewhere. Somethings in sl remind me of that old cocaine commercial: "I have to work harder to buy more coke, I have to work hard to buy more coke." poor bastards. Cat

Shouldn't you be out making money off of someone else's hard work?

Set up 10,000 such accounts though, with dedicated computers running a keyboard/mouse emulator that does nothing but log them in and out 24/7/365, and you've got yourself a nice little business. I wonder if it's possible that SL has ~40,000 real residents, and ONE other guy with 100,000 basic alts farming $1,040,000.00 (USD!) per year out of the system! Such a skewed ratio would be unlikely, but for a million bucks a year it would SURE beat working for a living! It wouldn't suprise me to learn a couple of people have 10,000+ accounts doing exactly this.

The usual reaction is "Impossible! Unlikely! No Way! You are Paranoid! iguessitreallyhappened..." This is purely hypothetical of course, for I would never admit to logging into a private Lineage2 server... ...but if you can wade through the original Mandarin (or get the English version) of a program called l2walker.exe you can still make about half a billion adena in a month or two, just 'experimenting' to see how such a thing works. I never did find the maximum number of instances before you couldn't run yet another cash-generating character simultaneously. (All kidding aside, I never farmed *any* official game, ever - and won't. Unlawful private servers however deserve no mercy...)
