Where's April when I need her lol?
I guess I'm not surprised at what happened to a certain Linden parcel on the auction this weekend, which I noticed consisted almost entirely of water, with only a sliver of mainland, with two parcels behind which I happened to buy from newbs for an outrageous price of $5120 per, $10/L when I decided to bid on that water and save it from griefing and ruining the lives of the entire peninsula there where I also bought other land.
Why am I not surprised? Oh, I dunno, just thinking of "You Can't Own the View" and Wetheral, and many other water situations where people idiotically grab water, which was idiotically parcelled by the Lindens in the first place, and put some huge white cube of death on it with scripted waterfalls and klieg lights lagging the sim down to FPS 27 when it fills up.
Well, you could do what the owner of this land suggested acidly, which was "sell and move". Or...being a tough, hardly SL player like me, hardened by numerous such skirmishes, never assisted by Lindens, you can respond...with art work.
What can you do with a white cube of death/lag-club? Well, I like to think that a tall black box of doom is the perfect answer to a white cube of death, especially if the white cube of death sits squarely on a plot that just by its very nature entirely blocks waterfront access to the new site of my black box of doom.
It's not really the owner's or the tenants' fault, although you might hope from them a modicum of decency in trying to think of other uses for giant patches of water that unfortunately block access to everyone else's water right behind it.
Maybe the Lindens were actually doing good here, putting some first land out on a nice waterfront area, responding to criticism including from me. Great! But....hook up the water better. There is no need for this! none at all!!!!
It's really the Lindens' fault when they parcel this way. And it's really unconscionable, in a game where people spend hundreds of RL dollars trying to enjoy their land. They should never, never, NEVER separate water from mainland in this fashion, there is absolute NO excuse. They can parcel smaller lots or bigger lots without resorting to this sheer mayhem.
So..visit the newest SL art installation I like to call CLUB LAGG. Club Lagg, with its sheer aluminum black shiny texture, spinning red cubes, and Chiller font soaring up to the sky provide a welcome contrast to the deathly hues of the white cube. Club Lagg invites you to ponder on the folly of land parceling that separates out water from land in a game where any structure can be built on that water and block the mainland.
Club Lagg....is a gathering place for people to talk about how they can change things like this sort of idiotic parceling....and how they might induce more courtesy from players who happen to get this kind of parcel.
I know why I bid for it -- to link it back up with the mainland and use it or sell it in coherent pieces to prevent griefing. But that's just me.

You are loveable, everyone is. Just remind yourself of that. There is good in you. You are articulate and well spoken. You have drive and determination and the ability to focus on a project.
These are all very good qualities. You have a lot to be proud of. I just wanted to tell you this.

Jeska, could we please move this thread to the Land and Extortion forum?

LOL good one. Prokofy remind me to show you the grey cube of "I built this massive ugly eyesore and haven't EVER been back since" that I have to deal with on a daily basis next to my land!

Club Lagg is gone but the white cube of death remains. What happened to the rebellion?

From: someone Club Lagg is gone but the white cube of death remains. What happened to the rebellion? __________________ Well my artwork Club Lagg belongs to the Peredvizhniki art movement (the traveling art exhibit movement of Russia) and so we moved on to another site. I continue to rebel through my judicious use of negrates, and my bountiful stipend program to my friends and neighbours who are too poor to negrate these cubists. I rebelled until a neighbour pointed out that Club Lagg was worse than White Cube of Death. I tended to agree. I had made my point, and having writ, moved on. I will hover around and ponder the subject in the coming days to see what might be done. The entire sim now is in danger of going to the dogs over this damn cube. What promised to be a kind of nice Nantucket area with some really great docks and houses going up, really lovely looking, is now looking like the usual chopped liver. Now...did you negrate this builder and this owner of the land? I think in this case, it is the only recourse. There is no other that doesn't itself become a griefing.

From: someone "I built this massive ugly eyesore and haven't EVER been back since" LOL yes my "favorite" is this newb on a 512 land that built this hideous phallic scultpure with a rainbox color, very amateurish, and then slapped a $1500 price tag on it, but you can't be sure -- if you buy it, will that be the original of this "art" and then it will go away? Or will a copy be waiting underneath? You don't want to make a $1500 mistake like that LOL. So there it sits.
