Some people have been saying they're worried, well, wondering about how P2P added together with the Mapping feature (being able to check where friends are on the map), and what privacy implications it had..

A while ago I mentioned wanting a sort of permissions feature for calling cards/friendships.. Except instead of Mod/Copy/Transfer maybe Map/Follow & Modify permissions?

I'll start a vote if theres enough support..

I have no problem with how it is, and wouldn't mind anyone in SL mapping me (altho I'm glad its not that way for everyone)..

So, whadyu think?

There is something to be said for that idea. But tracking and teleporting directly to friends is something unrelated to the new P2P abilities. I only did it once in 1.7, but it was possible even then to bring up a friend's Profile, map them, and then teleport to their exact location.

There are some people that I have offered friendship to, whom I would have no problem if they teleported directly to me at virtually any time.

For many others, I don't care if they track me, but I would prefer that they have to 'knock first', and ask me via IM to offer them a TP.

For some, I don't want them tracking me at all, and they shouldn't be able to TP to me unless they ask me via IM and I offer them a TP. Anyone I have not offered friendship to at all should fall into that category.

I agree its no more applicable with P2P.. Its just made people think I guess, being able to turn up right next to someone..

I would support something like this, after all most other online programs from MMO's to even the Instant Messaging services have some kind of privacy settings. You can appear Invisible to certain people, you can only accept IM's from people on your list, etc, etc.

Having more options is never a bad thing. =)

Difference between "friends" and "calling cards" now...
12-15-2005 16:26
"Calling Cards" holders (those you've handed only a calling card to, not extended friendship) cannot track you on the map.

"Friends" (those on your friends list) CAN. I would hope that you would be selective or at least care enough about the people on your friends list, to let them know they should knock first, or not, whichever your preference.

And if they can't follow the rule...take 'em off your friendship list and hand them a calling card.

No need to add the feature if the current one is used correctly.

Also, if you are on your own land and want privacy, set your landing spot away from the private area. When that is done, they can't land right on you. I tried that on a sim last night, the landing point was set, so I still had to locate my friend...of course, she knew I was coming. :)
