Linden Tree Credit

It would be nice if the Lindens allowed people free trees that would not count against the plot prim allotment. This might help beautify SL. Trees are always the first to go on small plots in favor of prims for chairs and whatnot. Many people would like to have trees but feel they cant afford the prims, this is especially true on smaller plots.

A Linden tree credit of five trees per 512m plot would go a long way to helping reforest SL. As far as the simulator usage, unless there is a work around, Lindens would need to maintain about 1920m per sim to support the five tree per 512m plot quota. Built in land tools could monitor the free tree count.

BEST Idea Ive Heard Yet
03-22-2005 07:14
This is absolutely the best idea I have heard yet and I will bump this thread with you to keep it near the top. Lots of folk on these forums are harping about keeping SL beautiful and not destroying the land by wiping it bare. Lets all chant to the Lindens-

Free Prim Trees! Free Prim Trees! Free Prim Trees!

(Kind of reminds me of Bluckbuster dropping their rental fees - great move!)

Come on Lindens- - - - - Pretty please. . . . .. .

*stamp*

Shiryu agrees too, but instead of endorsing your suggestion here, he took it straight to the Lindens... /invalid_link.html

Too good to come and rubberstamp an idea in Features any more are ya? Feted! That's what it is! Expects special treatment. Pfffft. :p

I think this is a great idea!

What's more... considering there are typically quite a few "unused prims" in most mainland sims due to Linden Land - accomodating an allotment of trees per plot shouldn't be too big a problem.

Maybe have a seperate allotment per parcel for "greenery" that doesn't count against your primary prim allotment?

Hope LL runs with this one!

Free trees perhaps, but not free grass.

With the advent of free trees, you will run into the specter of... griefer trees!!! Other than that I below a hearty "Hear Hear!" and give this my full endorsement.

Yes to your idea, Loki. This proposal should be kept alive until implemented.

Most people return the linden plants, and don't replace them. The reason seems to be a desire to use all prims for house/decor.

Right now there's one way to get a slight advantage in the struggle between prim limits and the desire for foliage. Those of us who prefer wilderness can get one of the free-to-copy trees called HUGE PINE TREE from the SL Parks and Rec site near Hiro's shop in Varney. Don't remember the name of that park, but if you hover over Hiro's roof you'll see huge pine trees -- many of them! A huge pine tree blocks a lot of wall. Highly recommended. : )

Robin didn't seem to take to this idea in the forums (or maybe it was another Linden), but I'd like to see it. I suspect the "rights of landowners" argument will be invoked against this one, though. Sadly.

(Anyone else familiar with the ancient Roman concept of "vista"?)
