More default camera positions?

I don't know about anyone else, but I find that the default camera position only works for me sometimes, and (largely due to lag) that controlling the camera via alt or the camera controls is difficult.

Would it be possible to add several other default camera positions? Ex: in front of the avatar, directly above, to either sides, close-up versions of the same, or some of them, or a view from an angle, sort of over your avatar's shoulder? It's a pretty standard feature in other online games.

This would be wonderful.

I have wanted to be able to change the default camera position and angle for as long as I been here, and expressed this desire more than once. Typically requests for an adjustable default camera position and angle are met with useless annoying responses from people telling you how to use the camera controls and telling you that you can adjust the default camera position and angle. I presume these folk just don't know what the word default means.

I want my avatar moved up on the screen a bit so I can see my feet, for functional purposes like landing more accurately when flying or jumping.

At times when I am interacting with others it would be nice to see my av's face to make sure it's not stuck in some stupid looking pose.

I came to this forum in search of the secret of setting the default camera angle. Now I understand the blank looks I got on the Help Island when I asked about it. Why can't I switch to a DOOM like eye view when walking?

Looking at the preview release notes it seems the ability to adjust the camera angle will be available via a scripted attachment after the release of 1.9 :)

If you mean first person view but where you can see your attachments (like a gun you're holding in front) you can do this already by switching to mouselook mode and enabling Show Avatar in Mouselook under the Adv. Graphics section of Preferences.

I know There has a "face mirror" mode where you can see yourself walking towards the screen, as strange as that may sound. Something that's been suggested is a basic way to position and then "lock" the camera so the position doesn't change as you move around. Normally, after you've angled the cam, touching a movement key will reset position.

The preview is up let's test it out!

I may finally be able to effectively move the camera down a ten or twenty centimeters and see my own feet all the time, how nice, or be able to change the view to see my face all the time when in a crowd jumping across sim borders to make sure my face hasn't gotten stuck in some stupid position. (Although I won't know what other's are seeing.)

I wonder if it will be possible to at least to some degree see things from other's viewpoint?

While I haven't tried the new preview yet, I'm guessing you could make a HUD that would do exactly this. To make it override the default camera, I think you could put the llSetCameraParams([]) in the moving_start event.
