Allow direct teleportation to places people select in their profile picks.

Solves the issues of:

a) Getting to places
b) Enforces people to give accurate information about their picks
c) Does not remove the telehub system, so commercial areas supposively stay in the same place.

My personal opinion: Probably has a bigger chance of being implemented than Lindenlabs removing telehubs, plus is reasonable to both sides of the telehub argument.

Except - how do you prevent this feature from being gamed?

For example, I could create an alt with my rolodex of places to go.

What would be wrong with "gaming" this feature in such a way? Are you worried about people having too many alts and its affect on other issues (waste of resources, perhaps)? Or you concerned that TP'ing in this fashion (ie using your "rolodex" feature) is somehow a problem other than the inherent Direct TP v Telehubs debate (which I don't want to rehash here)?

Please explain.

Without rehashing the P2P vs. Telehubs debate, I think it depends on how this was implemented.

If one could p2p directly to their own pics only, then I see the gaming of this feature as limited (But still present - couldn't you just leave one spot perpetually open, and add it on-demand when you wanted to go somewhere?)

However, if we could p2p to anyone's pics - what you'll end up with is defacto p2p teleportation. If we had that functionality today, you can bet that I'd be including in my event posts "Look up the profile for Travis Lambert to get here directly!"

After a few months of that, and of folks working around telehubs by pulling up profiles, the usage of Landmarks & Telehubs would probably end up being limited to those who didn't understand the new functionality of 'picks' - and rendering any motivaton to keep a buisness near a telehub somewhat diminished compared to the (debatable) amount it is today.

Don't get me wrong - I'm not trying to debate in this thread the virtues or pitfalls of P2P - I'm just saying that if you're going to take it this far, you might as well just go full hog for P2P, as you'll essentially end up with something similar in the end.

That's kind of what I was getting at, Trav.

What I was getting at was essentially Trav's "defacto P2P" point from the other end.

Basically, by implementing this feature for others' profiles only, you give people another (frivilous) reason to pick up an alt, similar to what happens with the "10% group bonus" land issue.

And, as Trav mentioned, it would render telehubs useless versus profile reading. With the ability to create an alt, you could tailor your choices at will for locations your friends missed.

Now, what would work is allowing others to use your home position. Since it would be impractical to search profiles ad nauseum for a teleport location, or buy alts to each location, that might work.

Allowing direct teleportation is already in game.

It's called

Find --> Place --> type in name from friend's list --> hit enter --> select place --> click teleport.

*shrug*
