Delete/Move Multiple Objects in Inventory - Why it's NECESSARY

I recently received a Live Help request from someone being spammed by notecards from what we're still figuring out if it's a 1-time bug or a bad script.

However, notecards have so filled up this person's inventory that I can't imagine how long it will take to delete them all. ESPECIALLY with the stupid delay between deleting things.

But, if a person had the ability to highlight multiple notecards, and trash them all in one swoop, it'd be easy. (Or move them to a folder all at once and delete that folder)

So, let me summarize reasons why this feature is necessary and should be a top priority of Linden Lab to add:
1. For bugs like this where a person will spend a huge time fixing inventory
2. For everyone in SecondLife - it's a common joke among players about how messy the inventory is and how hard it is to find
3. For resource management - cleaner inventories mean less junk = less load on servers
4. For anti-grief / spam - A huge problem in the internet today is spam. As Second Life grows, I fear this problem will expand in Second Life. We already see IM spam for clubs and notecards passed out from sensors and such, I can't imagine what we will see in the future. At the very least we could have a way to clean it out quickly!

Hiro, I believe this can be done. :)

Shift-click or Ctrl-click those objects... and then... push the Delete key.

Does it not work for you? =^_^=

Hold shift. Click each notecard. Right-click one notecard, select delete.

But the UI does need a lot of work, I agree.

EVERY time I've tried to delete more than 4 itmes at a time, one-by-one, they pop back into my inventory. EVERY time. No exceptions. So I'm used to deleting things 4 at a time. Somtimes I feel brave and go for 5, but that one extra one will pop back into my inventory about 2 seconds after hitting the delete key.

You still cannot move multiple objects

And, what is up with the inventory jumping all over the place??

about every 5th or sixth time I move something in inventory it jumps to some retarded location and what I am dragging drops into a folder that is not it's intended location

Don't use the Delete key. Right click. Delete.

Works every time for me. Though I think I might give the program about a 2 second wait before actually hitting delete.

Dear god multiple moves please! Trying to reorganise your stuff or moving lots of items into an object is such a hassle when it should be so simple. I don't see why it's not in already.

Multiple Item Move is absolutely needed! Thanks for saying it!
And if the multiple item delete works, then there's something retarded in the UI that fails to do it whenever I try it. (Yeah, I probably use the Delete key, but it should be firing the same event as picking the menu)

And while we're at it, could trashed items remove themselves from the trash when they rez? Why when I go through my trash and decide something can be purged do I have to delete the one in my trash AND the one I rezzed and then delete that one from the trash again. (I know, technically it's a different instance of the same item.)

But if there's an inventory overload issue, maybe it has something to do with this inventory management problem.

You know what I'd really like? A window where I could rez stuff but not in-world, so that I could edit, or edit contents without having to impose my crap on the world.

Sandbox...

Konigmann -

A "temporary area to rez & edit crap" exists. Its called a "Sandbox Area" and there are a bunch of them all over SL. :-) Yes, its not as convenient as your own private area - but its the best option, without re-writing chunks of SL's code.

Also, the "delete" feature you suggest doesn't work for the exact reason you point out: The object you Rez is a copy of the one in your inventory. If you wanted to auto-delete the object in the world as well as in your inventory, you create a sticky problem... Because what about all those merchants out there who've sold many copies of their wares? If they (or anyone who's bought one) delete it from their own inventory - you wouldn't want all of them to be deleted from the entire world!

Adding toggles/options to "work around" this behavior by telling the object whether or not to be "tethered" to your Inventory items is a lot more complicated than just pointing to the rezzed object and using the mouse to right-click-and-delete.

Take care,

P.S. Setting an object's permissions to "no copy" will make it so that Rezzing it removes it from your inventory - and so if you delete the rezzed object, you get rid of it entirely.

Oh... that could work... can I select multiple objects and set them all to NoCopy in a single step? Except... that doesn't work... because permissions are for Next Owner, and I'm the current owner. And for some reason, Trash already has some special handling, I can't set properties on objects there... but I don't know if I want to purge or restore "Object" until I rez it, and then that's a copy...

But please see if we can at least get the functionality that Hiro originally asked for. It's too important, I wouldn't want to Hijack the thread for my silly ideas.
