Now this is a feature I would **LOVE** to see.
Probably a combination of drivers bugs/extensive OpenGL usage by SLife, but hey

True 3D is something that I think would make SLife really, really, really, really, endlessly cool.

SLife doesn't work using the Nvidia 45.23 stereoscopic drivers using LCD shutterglasses....

well Bit, I recently upgraded my pc and havent tried it on this one, I will admit, but I used to play SLife on my edimensional shutter glasses on my geforce 3. I couldn't tell you the driver version or anything, I'm afraid. But it has worked in the past for me
![]() Will make a concerted effort to hook 'em back up soon. _____________________

shutter glasses
01-30-2004 11:57
Has anyone gotten SL to work with shutterglasses? I was under the impression that SL was OpenGL and that OpenGL didn't export any depth information that these glasses could use?

Not using shutter glasses, using LCD head mounted display.
Sorry. |

Actually, even without the 3d, the 2d in a head mounted display is quite awesome. I really really like mouse look mode. Total suspension of disbeleif.

Kris, I was strongly debating the purchase of a set of shutter glasses...
I'd love to hear more about your experience with them, if you don't mind. I saw on eDimensional.com that they work with ATI cards, too -- anyone had any experience with shutter glasses with ATI? (I have a Radeon, you see...) Thanks for any info ![]() |

The HMD is an I-Glasses SVGA-3D. Bought about 6 months ago from CWOnline for around $650. They are pretty good, working at 800x600 resolution. Before that I had a cy-visor - not 3d and pretty crappy, and a sony glastron plm-s700 which were awesome, but again, not 3d.
Right now I am struggling with video card issues as my laptop is pumping out a measly 7fps. oh for hardware also check out the intersense intertrax 2. Pretty cool and works well with second life and most other games that have a mouse look mode. Sam |

I was thinking of getting a pair of shutter-glasses. Can anyone point me in the direction of some really good ones? Recent ones, preferably? HMDs, too?

Gainward with the GeForce4 is pretty close to the bleeding edge. I've been using the VR Joy 2000 for a couple of years with Radeon cards. The results vary greatly from one application to another. It works incredibly well with my all-time favorite standalone game, Omikron. I've never made a serious effort to run SL in 3D since the OpenGL wrappers available for the Radeon/VR Joy combo are seriously outdated. {Your mileage may vary. Nvidia stereo drivers 45.23
02-01-2004 11:40
I tried the Nvidia stereo drivers 45.23 with my shutterglasses. The drivers don't play nice with OpenGL graphics, SL included.

you make a good point. Stereo is definitely not worth it for refresh rates under 85hz.

I've bought the Another World's Another eye 2000 glasses. They are pretty cheap, and I think you get the right quality for the price, which is: avarage.
It works with the nvidia stereo driver, which means you have to downgrade your display driver to match the latest stereo driver (43.something), but also means it works on any opengl and direct3D game (at least it's suppost to work) Also you do need a good monitor with high refresh rates and low fading, which I don't have. I can get some decent results with some games, but most of the time I see some ghost images This could probably be better if I got a good monitor, i've got a really old compay qvision 172 now. Also I'm having problems with most games, even those that are suppose to be working, but that's a driver related problem. On secondlife the left eye working alright, but the right eye shows white flashes and the weird effects. But again, that has nothing to do with the glasses. If you want to try out shutterglasses for fun, like I did, these are alright because of the price. If you are planning to play your games in stereo mode from now on, you'd have to buy more expensive glasses. Or buy one of those real VR glasses (See other posts) |

Yes. There was a thread in General Chat about it a few months back.

eDimensional Shutter Glasses
04-21-2006 03:12
I'm considering buying 3D shutter glasses and these ones from edimensional get good reviews: www.edimensional.com.
Previous posts on this topic are pretty old so I was wondering if anyone had any recent experience using these with SL? Thanks |
