Greetings, When I first came to Second Life I was absolutely amazed by the things that can be done in this world, I have come to the point where I am getting very Involved in building vehicles, mainly Cars and trucks, but out of all the things that can be done in this life with almost no boudaries, vehicle building has limits. I want my vehicles to be the best there is, I want my vehicles to have smooth body lines and curves. Most vehicles I see are square and boxy looking which bugs the crap out of me. I would also like my vehicles to have Interchangeable parts, but Due to this " Prim Limit " I feel like I will have to make "Box Cars". If you agree with me and would like to see the prim limit raised or Improved somehow please reply here and let me know what you think and hopefully we can get some attention to this issue. Thanks for your time. Buck Blanc P.s. I apologize now if this has already been petitioned but I am willing to use all my strength to get this changed If this subject has been touched on by a Linden already, please kindly tell me so and I will give up.

Isn't there a reason for this seemingly random prim limit number? Maybe that's all the Havok engine can handle? Or to reduce lag.

Its not being raised any time soon.
Its a performance issue. I own a number of 100+ prim physics vehicles. Trust me, there is a damn good reason you can't make them anymore. And as much as I would like to create higher prim vehicles still, I'm glad we can't anymore. They really hurt sims.

Im not saying as high as 100 but at least an even number like 40 or something. The other question I have is why are the sims so god damn sensitive...lol

Once Havok2 is in (which should have been in in 1.3!), they'll be able to have more detailed vehicles.

LL is looking at allowing us to link phantom prims to physical prims. This would allow you to create a collision mask for your vehicle that could in effect, be a single bounding box, leaving you with the rest of the prims for decoration. This would raise the prim limit for vehicles up to 255 prims, which is the most you can link at once.

That would be truly awesome Eggy, have you heard on a date we can expect to see this go into affect??
I did some research today trying to find Info on the Havok2 makeover for SL, Could not find any Info at lindenlab.com or this site, I went to the Havok website and they are talking about Havok 3 already!!
Something Fishy is going on here....

Andrew Linden just posted something in the "New in SL" forum. He said that 1.5 would still not include the full Havok2 port. It will be more of a bugfix release that includes some features scheduled for 1.4 that didn't make the cut. My guess is that getting Havok2 up and running would need to happen first, and only then will they focus on this feature. So... maybe 2005 :\

Ok, thanks Eggy. I guess i will have to put my vehicle building to the side for now. I refuse to make these low prim Crap cars... Edit: Not trying to bag on low prim vehicles already in game just a personal preference, sorry if I offend anyone.

It's why a land parcel is 4x4 metres, why there are 4096 parcels in a sim, etc.

Why even make vehicles physical (edit, err I mean non-phantom + physical -- sure you need physical to drive around). Really, why? Your avatar will do the colliding if you're silly enough to drive into the ground/wall/house/squirrel. Many of my vehicles are phantom, but still limited to the 31 prim limit.
Be even nicer if volumedetect wasn't bugged (allowing objects to fall below the ground). Still, very little reason to NOT make vehicles entirely phantom.

Boso Cars work piss poor phantom Landing on anything other than the ground becomes a comedic sight.
