Hi Lindens - With the proliferation of watercraft - sailboats, motor yachts, submarines, jetskis and the like - please consider filling the holes in the grid with empty water sims until such time as land is integrated into them. This would make water-borne travel around the world easy and quite spectacular. Maybe even drop a few underwater wrecks and such to look for

I second this feature suggestion! It would also help vehicles with autonavigation systems not to have to figure out routes around non-existent sim voids.

i know this idea has been mentioned before and i have an idea to make it more feasible for LL. perhaps water sims could include 1/2 sim of land.. or less. the water could be protected land. then, like Nova Albion, the prim allotment could be doubled.. or more. people would pay higher prices for the land and there would be huge tracts of waterways for watercraft. a win-win situation.

I think thats a great idea that would make the world seem MUCH larger. And we should wrap around to the other side of the map when we get to the edge instead of hitting an invisible wall

This has been suggested many, many, many times. WE REALLY WANT IT! C'mon, regular sized sim that doesn't support many prims at all, maybe just a couple hundred even. You can run multiple sims on the same server. Then you can just put ocean sims all around SL! that would be very, very good indeed.

I think water is a good idea. LL could replace the servers running the old sims and re-use them for the water sims. Would bring up the property value in old sims, and would make navigation easier. Also if you put maybe two islands in each sim and quadrupaled the prim allowance you would have the most valuable land in SL running on an old server.

I know that LL probably won't do it because they won't make any extra money directly from this idea but we really do need some open water with no land mass at all. Allocate 0 prims and make it no edit, no build land. This would ba awsome for boating as there really isnt a great place for it now.
There are several 2-3 water sim sights on the map that are surrounded by land. these would be ideal as they are already in the middle of the world.
Just something for LL to think about, I said there would be no money generated 'directly' from this but indirectly there would be due to the added ease of travel and the added fun of the open water. Some newbies may choose to stay because of these features in addition to the retention of existing customers. Please think about this. We really want it and it is needed!

I support this product and/or service. But, I'd prefer to have the land set to build with a 60 minute auto-return or something. This will make it easier to rez vehicles, and ramps/obstacles for fun things like jetskiing

I think the problem with this is that basically each sim is a separate hardware unit (a server). It costs too much money even for small servers to support water sims, particularly when there is no return for Linden.

We could have a sim with building enabled but residents would have to build either in the sky or underwater. What do you think? It wouldnt be such a waste of resources if something like this could be pulled off.

It seems that residents build on the water in sims anyway. I think LL could still create water sims and sell land. I personally would buy a water lot for a boat dock or underwater house.

It would be great if sl supplied a few more sims of community land. Including an empty lake, and a few touches here or there to preserve the cosmetic butte of the land. Could have a sunken ship, a few coral reefs, a giant clam, or even a gain sea turtle, that double as an island.
Personall I have an intrest to purchas some land on a coral reaf.

I would LOVE to see the holes in the map filled with oceans. Big, wide, beautiful oceans. Deep oceans would also be very nice because there could be more places to drive our submarines.

Ocean sims
06-25-2004 21:53
This has been suggested before but here goes:
We have been told that you can run more than one sim on a server so... put 4 water sims on a server. set them for less players per sim and maybe ony 500 prims. set them to auto delete after 60 mins.
This would mean we sail through them, res boats but not hold big events, clutter them up with prims etc...
It would be great to have even just the holes between the sims plugged in this fashion.

Sounds good to me. Maybe use two servers and make it 8 sims.. And heck, I don't even have a boat. lol
