Their names could be shown as a different color, or prefixed with their status.
When IMing someone from their profile, a confirmation box could appear to indicate that the person doesnt want to be disturbed.

I wholeheartedly endorse this suggestion.
I would like to see that someone is away or busy when I open an IM window to message them, before I actually do - just like it does if they are offline. I'd also like a visual indicator in the Calling Card list in inventory, and on their profile online status.
Which, uh, is what eggy said, huh?
