I have always wondered what the purpose of guns were in Second Life. I can understand war games, hunting games, or related games of that nature.
A couple of nights ago, someone entered my home, shot me and my companion and blew us somewhere out of the SIM we were living. I returned to my home, and was shot again.
This happened about 5 times before I asked someone for help. That someone came and shot the other guy out of the SIM.
After learning all about this business, I had no choice but to restrict avatars allowed on my property. I did not like the idea of ruining the enjoyment of traveling over my land by my neighbors, or other SL members wanting to fly around and view the pretty landscaping.
I also learned that this event was Mafia inspired. Well that sounds fun and very much like real life except for one thing. In real life, there is a judicial system to protect the ordinary citizen. Second Life does not have that feature, even though they say they have a system for suspending usage, and other punishments. While I think it's fine to play cowboys and indians, and good buy and bad guy, it should never happen at someone else's enjoyment of the game.
Yes, I know all about system design. I have zero experience with games, but I think that Linden should evaluate the problems "nice" people using the system, and do what they can to help.
RESOLUTION: It's cheap, and it's simple. Add a switch to the system to prevent the usage of things intended to harm other users.
BENEFITS: This will enable Night Clubs, business, and "nice" people from worrying about the fun given to "not nice" people. Night clubs and business would be able to advertise they have a safe place to have fun. Linden might include churches as well, as I understand the Mafia enjoys blowing up other people's weddings.
