Zoom To Face would set the camera such that the face is as big as possible while still fitting in the screen, centered in the screen, with the camera aimed perpendicular to the face.

Distorted faces might produce funky results, but the important thing is that normal faces would be displayed properly.

This would let you select a surface that's playing a video, do Zoom To Face, and have the face the video is on fill your screen, looking straight at the face and thus seeing the video head on.

Note: I am aware of the Zoom to Selection and Focus on Selection options, neither of which do what I described above. I am also aware that you can manually adjust the camera to approximate the result of Zoom To Face. The point of the suggestion is to instantly and perfectly accomplish that which when done manually takes time and effort and produces imperfect results.

Yay! Texture Stealing!

Low fi texture stealing for those who can't put "steal textures "second life " into Google and find the url for GLIntercept, the source code for the second life viewer, or the svn at libsecondlife.org.

Only folks who would be stealing textures with print screen except that the effort of moving their camera around a bit is just too darned much work would be enticed into a life of crime by this feature.

"Darn it, if only there'd been a zoom to face feature, I could have been as wealthy as Midas without any work, but since I can't be bothered to move the camera a bit to get some lowfi textures, I guess I won't, and I won't be using the time freed up by not collecting textures with screen captures doing anything else of a questionable nature instead."

The texture stealing objection strikes me as having little merit.

It's kinda sad my motivation for wanting this feature is to be able to easily maximize and properly point at a video screen, the 2D output of which is often far more entertaining than looking at a bunch of prims uselessly reproducing buildings in Second Life.

Yay! Being able to easily look at a face maximized and straight on!

I think people would find this useful.

I occasionally find myself squaring up the camera for a non-projected snapshot, but not typically on a single prim. I'd rather have a "camera sqare to face" feature than a "zoom to face". Once square (and centered) you could zoom to the level you want.

By the same token, once square and zoomed in, you could zoom to the level you want.

Separate commands, one for camera square to face and one for zoom to fill screen with face, would work fine.

It was one possible use that had negative consequences. You however shot it down expertly. :)
