Also i had a idea of maybe making somthing like , you know on yahoo or msn how you can switch to appear offlline , and its more of a privacy thing so u are on but no one can see u ? was thinking maybe somthing like that in SL would be nice too , for all those people that are spammed with IM's ALL the time and need a break ! just go into appear offline and people on IM show u as offline , sound good ? i know a bunch of people that might like a break or 3

I'd really love to have this. Catherine Omega suggested basically the same thing about a month ago, you can see the replies to it here.

Yeah, there were a few people who got kind of mad that I was asking for it. The argument was basically that if I'm getting IMed, it's what I deserve for... uh... having the audacity to suggest that I be allowed some "alone" time in SL, I guess. Heh, I swear, I must get a half-dozen in-world IMs a day from people pissed off at me for stuff I've said in the forums. Anyway, I think it's a great idea; it may already be implemented on the "God" menu, though the Lindens I've asked about it claimed not to know anything about it. One seemed a little quick to dismiss, ("uhh, what feature? Bye!" while the other seemed genuinely baffled that I would think such a feature existed. My suggestion that perhaps the other Lindens had simply not passed this tidbit of information along was not appreciated. Basically, if it is already available to the Lindens, (and it's probably more likely that it's not) then they only need to set it up so that the system actually logs it properly. I get the impression that if the Lindens already have privacy/invisible mode, that it may not be fully fleshed out in terms of tracking or logging. Accounts in god mode need to be able to view the real online status of users. I'm not convinced it works this way.

well just how ever they do it , i know tones of people that are stresing out cause waaay to meny IMs to where cant have 1 minute of peace and quiet , and appear offline or privacy mode would greatly help them out im shure .
speshaly if there merried , and want to be alone , trying the busy mode isnt working cause it blocks all text even people next to you , not just IM's

Yep, I've been wanting this forever too. All my suggestions are on Catherine's thread, as well as like 6 others I think.

i dont know if they have it or not but i know form what i see that it is greatly needed , other wise there is like no privacy at all not even then busy mode helps.
If any lindens would like to give there thaughts on this it would be nice =^.^=

I'm definitely all for it, once the aforementioned bugs are worked out. When building, I often set my status to busy, but ppl on the other end of an IM don't see this status flag. I agree - implement something like Yahoo IM's "Invisible to Everyone" feature. You can still initiate a chat, and still get IMs from ppl who think you are offline. It will just reduce the volume, which is really all I'm after.
Also, I guess you would need to be able to set this as a pre-log preference so that, upon login, you don't broadcast the "XYZ is online" messages to your SL buddy lists. Conversely, though, I'm not sure whether or not an "XYZ is offline" message should be broadcase when you switch to invisible mode while in-world. Thoughts?

no, no message should be broadcasted when u switch to it , people dont llways catch those mesagas anyhow, it should just take u off the list and show u as offline. while u realy are still online but just people wount see that.
And then when change back to visable it just quietly put u back on.
