Selective Calling Card Options

Calling cards could be a great way to gather a social life and develop relationships in SL, but the current setup is simply too intrusive for my tastes.

Not everyone I meet and *might* want to get to know better is someone I neccesarily want to be able to instantly locate me, track my movements, or interrupt me when I'm working. Some yes, others no. Consequently, I don't trade cards with anyone unless we're already pretty good friends.
But I wonder how many potential good friends I've missed out on because I don't trade cards with people I barely know.
Or, say I'm in IM with someone: I don't want to have to tell half a dozen other people that I'm busy when they IM me or just drop in.

For these cards to be useful to me, I would ideally like the ability to select options within each individual card to:
Toggle my beacon on/off
Toggle online notification on/off
Toggle busy message on/off

If thats not viable, how about just a simple toggle to enable/disable each individual card?

I agree, for the most part. Online notification toggling would be pointless as things currently are. Because stupidly, if you go to 'find' it tells you their online status even if you don't have their calling card. But if that little bug was fixed, then yes, it would make sense.

In my experience having busy on is kinda pointless, because no one takes notice of it. Given a 'real' busy mode (or preferably customisable status message) where it takes messages and doesnt disturb you at all, again, would be useful.

And I'd certainly not mind the ability to not be tracked. Frankly, I'd like that to be a global preference option in the UI, because I don't particularly want ANYONE tracking me.

I don't really have any issue with the online notification or the ability for others to track me, but I can see where some might. *mumbles about the oh-so-popular people*

I do agree with the need to be able to individually toggle the busy status though. I just hate being very deeply immersed in an IM with someone and then having to tell others that unknowingly interrupt with IM's, that I am busy.

*sighs* ah well, such is Second Life...

All I can say is that I agree. I'm sick of having people that are often annoying, but whom I'd like to have recorded come up to me when I'm in the middle of a business deal and act immature.
