SL Space, is a thought which occured to me while build an airship at my Marina. Space travel is a fantasy many would like to live, just look at all the star trek people on SL. Space would of course have different rules then the land based world. Those who wish to own a piece of space would have to buy in certine space sims to keep most of space free for travel and exploration. New Scripting would have to be worked in to give the users the feel of space. For one, without a "Gravity" script, avatars would move around endlessly until they bumped something physical, having no other means of controling there movements unless the gravity script was present. Perhapes even a "Life Support" script which determine air amounts in a space suit or space ship. With out life support the avies die and return to a starport or the land based world. This opens an entire new frontier for Second Lifers who enjoy the sci fi aspect of the fantasy world.

I don't expect this Idea to take off right away on the forums. Those out there who might enjoy this idea also see the draw backs. The Trekies are thinking "oh thats nice, too bad my 7000 Prim Galaxy class starship wont move..." And the Stargate fans are thinking, "well I see 2 problems with this idea, 1 our stargates won't transport us between sims right now, and 2, theres no other planets for us to explore anyways." and the Star wars fans are like "I have a light saber....."

Eventually these problems will be solved with space. SL Mars will be awsume to explore, and live on. The 7000 prim starship may never fly, but I can see 250-300 prims in the future, and light sabers will still work in space my young friends.

This idea brought to you by Cheese. No the moon will not be made of it, but feel free to bring alot on your next picnic there.

I wrote a script called "Moon Boots" that lets you change your personal gravity all the way from lunar gravity to Jupiter's in 1/6th gee steps.

It'd be bloody marvelous if this was at least a "sim" option, like the day and night.

I don't think going all the way to zero is gonna work without ragdoll physics. But low gravity's a bloody blast, let me tell you.

perhaps if the upper limits were extended, or perhaps having space after a certain altitude available as new "land", a sim would encompass a cube in space without gravity nor ground, and have the user obrigatorilly fly while within(the death by vaccum would require scripting as most deaths do aswell other restrinings on movement habilities), with a special prim flag/prpoerty which would add gravity(ag) to any av or phys object inside it

Turning off gravity for the avatars is a piece of cake.
CODE

llSetForce(llGetMass() * <0,0,9.8>);

The hard bit is creating all the animations and controls. And figuring out what to do about the huge stonking hole in the simulation caused by the fact that no matter what you do with the gravity, up is up and down is down. There's no bloody up and down in freefall.

We need SPACE in SL

I m so glad I found this threat ! The first thing that came to my mind when I logged on for the first time on SL, is why is there no Space? Why are we restricted to land and air only? In a virtual game with endless possibilities, where the hell is the big empty void of space?

My idea was the different Sims could have their own planets. You could eighter teleport to another planet (sim) or fly in there through space.

We could build starbases, live on a space ship, own entire galaxies or solar systems for that matter.

Once on a planet, the virtual world would look similar to the one we re used to now. And the people who don t like space can remain on the planets ;)

Please someone forward this idea to Linden Lab.

Thanks
