Minor feature request...

Since it seems, from lack of official commentary to the contrary, that SL is sticking with a whole new client every version change in spite of how stupid it seems to some (yes, like me :p ), each version update will require a new instalation.

My request is a minor one, but something that, to me, is like an itch you just can't reach to scratch:

Let us choose whether we want to put the SL shortcut on the desktop of not when we're reinstalling yet again because of each and every x.x.x.1 update.

I know most people don't care if there's umpteen zillion shortcuts and files stored on their desktop, but again like me, there are those who like to have greater control over what's actually on the desktop.

And, yes, it is easy to delete a desktop shortcut, but that's not the point. :p The point is that even for ultimately inconsequencial features like shortcut management, allowing more user choice is more in line with the open nature of SL in general.

<Triumph>Come on, Noh. Philip was a VP at Real. We're lucky SL isn't installing four different shortcuts and taking over every file type that isn't .txt.

I keed, I keed. It would only be three shortcuts.</Triumph>

It's a good point, though. It would only take a checkbox.

and I want the mouse pointer to be in the bottom right corner of the screen when I run Second Life. I'm sick of having to move it out of view.

I'm also getting tired of breathing!!! I want a machine that does it for me! Damn you LL!

I'd also like the option to apply graphics settings BEFORE launch.
Such as
- Low (All Hardware Defaults)
- Medium (Average Hardware)
- High (It Plays HL2)
- FUCK THE ROCK ON! (HL2 - In High-Def while rendering dvix and calculating weather)

Setting aside the issue of what's "average" as being tangential (at best), this kind of option wouldn't be a bad idea, though I don't dare to guess at how much extra coding it may require, compared to a simple checkbox option on install, perhaps where you select the installation directory (to not require an additional window for the installer function).

Expanding those selections to settings in general, instead of just graphics ones, would be even better, though. :)

I agree with the desktop shortcut thing. I typically use my desktop for temporary storage of install files and random documents/media, and I almost never put shortcuts on it if I can help it. So yeah, it is kinda annoying to have to delete that little eye-hand every single time there's an update. :o

Can we have the option not to have it place a shortcut in the start menu too? I'm fed up with having to put the -multiple back in all my shortcuts after an upgrade.
