lot of requests

Posted this on email too.

1. have a "message only" mode (something like busy and away mode), where you can be in world, exclude graphics mode and use just Instant messages and chat. so you could save bandwidth (on server for other users), CPU time and desktop space. (right now you can resize the window to small and maximize chat history window, but you continue to work on the graphics too)
2. have "docked" pane rather than a window for editing (create) and inventory (à la poser). world vie should resize rather than be covered, so looking and targeting tool work referenced to what you see
3. Create: have a "align on a axis" command, where you can move an object till it hit something (like ground or a wall).
4. on a mac SL sometimes feel a little "sluggish" (I'm on a dual g5 with optic fibre connection (>2mbit, synchronous)
5. on a mac if you are using a network account you end by having the cache on the server and to consume bandwidth and have a slow cache. Would be nice to specify the folder for cache
6. have a "clear cache" command
7. have international support on mac, really, is a major issue!!
8. be able to select male/female character in animation update
9. have more responsive/precise movements, like slow walk and strafe, so you could get in front and really near someone without bumping him/her (useful for kissing :-)
10. have the ability to run instead of just walk
11. have the ability to teleport in the right place if u use a landmark
12. have a pane/window showing the direction and the distance of all your friends on line
13. support dual ppl animation. it should work like this:
- you build an animation where there are 2 characters in poser.
- you import it and say who is the playing character between the 2
- when I play the animation a popup says "select the character you want to perform the action at"
- animation does take place, and proportions and positions of hands, head (front, top, sides, back, mouth), torso (front, back), hips (front, back, sides) and foot (bottom, front) are corrected based on the avatar measures
14. editing: support variable size for wearable objects. you should be able to specify for an object, near x, y, z dimension: "adjust the size basing to: (popup menu with "circumference and length of arms, legs, neck, torso, hips, head";). so you could build a necklace fitting it to your neck and then, distributing it, it could resize based on proportions of avatar wearing it. maybe this could be done for position too
15. have a better control of the cam when you are in rooms. cam should not be outside the room you are in if you are not using "alt" to change your view (yeah, I know it's difficult, but you can use the rule "between a cam and the player there must be no object who is > 20% of view. you could even make objects half transparent
16. would be nice to have, at least, a basic genital support in avatars. not working one, just to have something more than a Barbie or a Ken!!! mens in particular are really comic.
17. have a preview of objects in inventory
18. if you are on a PG rated land it would be nice to have automatic black rectangle on sex part if you are nude and have genitals (point 16) on.
19. it would be nice to have a Mac Os X version...hey, but you have that!! Oh you're wonderfull!!! ;-)
20. it would be nice to have a "refresh view" that reload textures and objects from scratch rather then from cache. sometimes, often by switching between full screen and windowed mode, you end up with garbled or nonexistent textures.
21. there are really few events for european players. think time for us is different!
22. Would be nice to have some rain sometimes.
23. have local time and SL time displayed on top left corner of the screen, so u can go to sleep b4 4 AM ;-)

I thought there was a way to toggle running all the time.

A lot of what you're suggesting either already exists or has already been implemented by residents.

Ctrl-R is the run toggle.

You can strafe in 3rd-person mode by shift-A and shift-D.

You can use a scripted attachment to allow you to move more precisely. If you're interested, I sell one at my store in Chartreuse.

You can make more realistic genitalia using textures and objects.

Rain or snow can be created by particle scripts.

I'll do you one better: SLIM - Second Life Instant Message Client. No real resourses consumed on either end, and has all the best features: Buddy list, customizable away messages, the ability to set alerts so you're informed when people login, automatic logging, etc...

It should be a seperate client so you only download it if you want it, and the system should give secondlife priority for recieving messages.

What if somebody teleports into a house?

Agreed.

That's not the result of caching, it's texture memory corruption resulting from the switch. A "Reload textures from cache" button would likely solve the problem. (Grain of salt, IANAL - I am not a linden)

As a weather effect? Agreed. Especially if it was particle-based rain that could pool and flow realistically.

I'm still new. But resident implemented is not like system implemented.

Didn't know strafe commands. Using script to move precisely is a patch, not something good implemented

I can make (and tried) realistic genitalia, but, just a simple way to be nude without sticks glued to your body would be nicer.

rain and snow, like weather and lighting should be done by environment, not particle emitters.

thank you for replies anyway.

would be nice and handy, but maybe it would transform SL in a IM system, i think this is not the phylosophy behind SL.

The purpose of SL is social interaction. That goal would not be impeded, and would indeed be aided by extending it's reach to time outside of SL.

People would still need to have an account in order to use the IM system, and what's the point of paying for an account if you're just going to use it for IMs? (The alternatives are freem for instance...)

11: It was like that in the beginning. You had to pay a few L$ according to how far away the destination was. They changed it to the current system last September in order to make the world feel more like a world (or something like that.)

21: Events happen because users sign up to host them, so this will change when more European users start hosting events.

Heh, did I strike a nerve? :) The whole point of SL is that it provides us with the tools to build our own features. Everything you indicated as "not something good implemented" works as well as --if not better than-- they would had the Lindens implemented them.

SL's strength is that it allows for user-created content and features. If the Lindens wrote all the scripts and did all the building and graphics, that would be pretty boring.

To be more precise, it would be There.

No nerve, don't worry :-). i think what is phyisic and nature should be implemented by the system. then overriden by the users. you can walk because the system implemented it, then you can ride a rocket scripted by you. maybe lindens should be implement just a little more touches. not everything.
