Vote now for prop# 1450 ( http://secondlife.com/vote/index.php?get_id=1450 )

I would like for emotes (/me) to work within instant messages, as it does for chat.

This small addition would provide greater continuity, as well as better roll-playing possibilities.

There are many times that, even with others present, or to avoid eavesdroppers, it would be nice to perform a more, covert, unbroadcasted, personal action.

In these cases we currently use IM's. We should be able emote within them as well.

As an arbitrary example, as a recipient, which would you prefer to see?

Example 1:

A> Vertex Zenith gently nudges your foot under the table.

B> Vertex Zenith: I gently nudge your foot under the table. Hey, why is everyone looking at us?

C> IM: Vertex Zenth: I nudge your foot. Isn't that cute?

B and C kind of break the illusion of a subtle and personal action.

Example 2:

A> Vertex Zenith tilts his head upwards inviting you to view the stars.

B> Vertex Zenth: look at the stars. No, not everyone. Quit looking at my stars!!!

C> IM: Vertex Zenith: I tilt my head to look at the stars in a manner which invites you to also. Blah.

This, seemingly easy to implement feature (as it effects only text parsing and display), would also reduce the amount of 'person to person' emote spam within an area. Which is a good thing IMO.

If you're going to 'gently squeeze her hand*', everyone in the room really doesn't need to notice it... unless of course you'd like them to (in which case you could always use a chat emote).

So for better, more robust roll-playing, the ability to 'emote' to someone not in the same area, and for less emote spam in rooms, I urge you to support prop# 1450 ( http://secondlife.com/vote/index.php?get_id=1450 ) aka the "emotes in IM's" act.

/me welcomes your opinions now.

Currently I drop out of /me mode when using IMs and go for the old fassioned Usenet approach.
*Smiles*
Like that. But it would be nice to have /me available.

You will be happy to see that an earlier proposal with the same content has been marked as "in development".
