What gets me to bring this up is mostly people who go about with "Anti-physics" or "Neutralizer" shields turned on. They detect physical objects within range and apply direct impulse in order to drive them away. They may be unaware but these shields cause havok with passive physical objects, and vehicles that use SL's physics system.
Oddly enough they don't often do much against the bullets they're probably meant to stop - I've tested, and unless a projectile moves slowly or over great distance they don't catch it in time.
A prime example is Abbotts Aerodrome, what has been SL's premier airport for at least two years running now. As it just so happens, Abbotts' direct neighbor to the west is the Cordova Sandbox. Now besides the occasional madness that spills over the basin walls, theres often the matter of low-flying aircraft that are either taking off or landing. People often build tall buildings and hey, thats fine - You can see them, and they can be flown around. I had the misfortune however of meeting someone's neutralizer shield last evening as I took off and flew over Cordova, and was propelled (Plane and all) to the far corner of Rosedale - Over a sim away! Why does someone need that in the Sandbox where there is not supposed to be any PvP action?
These shields give no indication as to their presense and no warning before they act - If someone walks around with it turned on, they unknowingly break or displace every physical thing within at least 50 meters of them. They're sensor based, so the effects can be as far-reaching as a 96m radius from the avatar - Thats a 192m diameter destructive sphere roaming around!
Now given how difficult it is to peg out who actually has one of these on when you run into such issues, I'm quite open to ideas on how to find and deal with them. There is always the abuse report tool but I never know if they're able to derive anything from that - Can you pick up actions upon objects as in this instance, or are the Linden tools limited to finding attacks directly upon avatars?
As for immediate action, the only thing you seem able to do is to fly back, go to the middle the sim, and shout a request for whomever has the antiphysics shield on, to "Please shut it off". Not often does this get results I believe.
