I was guiding a friend through the new player enrollment this weekend and we found that all previously available Spanish surnames were removed and no others are available.

Among those no longer available for new players: Gomez, Martinez, Zapata.

I am sure that if I look closer, many other older surnames are probably gone too, so I am not saying it has anything against to do specifically against Spanish names.

I am just wondering why are they not longer available? Are there limits?

It would have been nice for my friends to be able to enroll as members of the Gomez family.

The Linden policy is to restrict the number of accounts created with any particular surname, to a total of 150 names. Once 150 names are created using that surname, the surname is retired forever.

You'll need to ask for new surnames :)

Not to hijack the thread, but I wonder if it'd be possible for the Lindens to also inject a few appropriately otherworldly surnames into the mix in the future, for avies who like to spend their time mostly in non-human forms.

You know...like "K'Zhrzz" so something Babylon-5ish for the ET's, "D-105" for the Mechs, and sometheng really Gaelic for the Elven Folke :p

Ah well, to be sure, we don't really have much use for a last name underhill, so we adopt whatever pleases us in your world... :)

Thank you, Hank! Just the answer I was looking for :)

They do then just restrict it to 150 they also restrict how long a last name is available. It's something like 2 months.

Anyway LL doesn't actualy lock them they just remove them from the list...

Tito,

All is not lost! Your friends can still be named Queso :) If I were in need of an alt, surely I would pick Queso - everybody loves cheese :)
