Sometimes we use Linden-created foliage *inside* of our builds and it would be very helpful to have a check box to turn-off the 'blowing in the wind' effect.
It looks kinda silly when the plants are indoors but still swaying with the wind.

this is client generated effect so it'll likely be easier for them to put a checkbox in the land settings that specifies windy trees or not.
we can then subdivide land under places that we don't want the blowing effect and people will download that setting along with the land's name et cetera.
a per tree option would mean a lot more overhead for the clients to pull and manage.

Uhhh... No, it'd work just as well by having the option on the tree-object. Your idea would be like suggesting that color of objects should be based on a property set on the land, and you can just subdivide the land up to color objects different colors.

Considering a tree is more or less just a simple object i see no reason why one of it's status flags couldn't be remapped to keep it from blowing in the wind. So i don't really think there would be much overhead involved in it, just mapping a few bits. I am of course assuming that LL left some space in the tree format to allow for expantions of the format...

While we're talking about Linden foliage, or tree prims as I call them... Why can't these be area selected or linked into objects? It makes them extremely hard to build with.
You may ask why would anyone want to build with tree prims. Well, swing by eastern Zoe and look at the giant mallorn tree I made by decorating trunk and branches with several dozen tree prims (of the rhododendron variety I believe). The tree prims give the foliage some movement, and make it look quite realistic. But I'll never be able to inventory or move the darn thing, cause it's basically impossible to get all the tree prims selected at the same time.
Is there a good reason why tree prims can't be as easily manipulated as geometric prims?
Oh yeah, I second Strife's original suggestion too.

They can be selected, technically, we have always been able to select them, but since the random noob of the day was having problems with building because he kept accidentally selecting trees, Linden Lab, in their eternal quest to dumb down SL for the masses, disabled tree selection.

I know I can select tree prims one-by-one, but since highlighting of selected trees is so lame and I can't area select or link them, there is virtually no way I can move my mega-tree and maintain its integrity. Hmmm, maybe I need a script...
