I got to thinking in the wee hours of the morning right before I fell asleep about how hard it seems for LL to publicly address the users at times. Sure there are the forums, which I obviously use myself, but I'm sure there are plenty of people who never set foot in the forums. Yes, sometimes little notes pop up as we are loading SL, but how many people pay close attention to the loading screen?
Back when I played Everquest we used to get a Message of The Day (MOTD) every time we logged in. It informed players of scheduled down times for the most part, also the occasional even or some such. We could even set Guild MOTDs so that our guild leader and officers could inform us of important information or events. Wouldn't it be nice to not have to use the voting tool to send out a message to your group?
A simple, short message every time we logged in that could be updated on the fly or added to by Lindens would be very useful in my opinion. In an Everquest fashion:

I imagine this would be hard to implement, or it would already be a feature. It would be nice to receive official information, or even the information on where to get it whenever you logged in. Though I'm sure this would drive some people crazy, so it would need some kind of silly checkbox in the options to turn it off.
