Group Message Enhancement

Recently, I noticed that when you send a message through the group message system, if a member is offline, they never receive the message. I found this a bit odd since it is an IM and my understanding was that all IMs were saved until the resident came back online, but that is not the case.

This "bug", "defect", whatever, has caused some major communication problems and some very abusive tacticts such as using the voting system to make group wide announcements, as everyone sees a vote, but not a group message.

Can we look forward to group messages being saved like individual messages?

that's how it works. if you message a group via im, the messages will hold until each member logs in.

to do this, you have to put each member's calling card in a folder; then right click the folder and choose to im everyone. you still have the option of opening an im to only the ones online.

I think you are missing what I stated. I am talking messaging through an ACTUAL group, not doing a mass message. I have a group that I founded, AMDC Group and when I try to message through that group, those members not logged in will not receive the message. I shouldn't have to have everyone's calling card in order to do this.

Yes, I've recently found that as a news dissemination tool, groups suck.

If I need to let all my tenants know about some change to the apartments, it's a real pain. Since tenants can register for an empty suite without me having to be there, I don't have many of their calling cards.

Slightly old thread but I'm bumping it instead of making a new one on the same topic.

I too think we need a Group Announcement system of some kind that sends messages either to the persons email or saves it for an offline as it does when you IM them or cause a group voting thing.

Right now the best way to do a group announcement through a group is through the voting system, which is annoying because it will sometimes re-send out the votes for various reasons.

So I propose a Group Announcement button, when clicked, you put in your message, click OK or whatever and it sends it to everyone in the group, if they are offline the system treats it as a offline IM.

Perhaps only officers should be allowed to do group announcements.
(or if Nexus' idea is implemented, make it a permission "Allow User(s) To Do Group Announcements";)
