My boyfriend was showing me a feature in WoW, called the 'Clothing Room' which allowed him to preview an item on his Avatar before purchasing. He could rotate his Avatar and see what the item looked like from all angels.
I think this would be invaluable to skin, clothing and prop makers and SL shoppers in general. I’m sure this could be implemented through some sort of preview script that could be placed in an object and then reference an item within the object (Skin, Clothing, Props). If the player clicked the object a 3D preview viewer would come up showing what the (skin, clothing, prop) placed in the object would like look on their AV.
Just and idea, maybe someone has already brought this up?

Ahhh... this is ongoing, practical, and popular. I'd like it myself. There's a previous thread on it started by Jesse Linden here: /13/9a/44483/1.html

that would be a cool feature, as of now you can always demo stuff by making another copy that just has the word "demo" stamped across it, Most skin people do it already. I know a few people who have sold expensive clothing that have offered demos too - hair people as well. I have thought about making prefab demos as well.

dangit. i forgot what thread i was in, and accidentaly posted this in the thread Torley linked. ____________________________________________ for the record, i would love to see this feature implemented. being able to see an item only in a vendor image is limiting. it would be wonderful to give customers the ability to confirm if an item is right for them before they spend thier money on it. perhaps it could force them into appearance mode, and display the items available in the vendors in their respective layers. it would be extra cool if mod permissions would still apply, so for the duration of the demo the usual slider options would be available as well. once they exit the appearance menu, they revert back to the clothing they had on. just an idea. ________________________________________ i meant to post that here. woops. the idea of adding the version of the item with DEMO in text on it has been done in a few markets, mostly skins, but it is resource-intensive. it requires creating and uploading and building and boxing two items rather than one, and effectively doubles either your prim count or your script count in your shop. it's a great solution, but when you are exploring it for a shop with a large amount of items, it gets impractical fast. a solution that is more automated would make the use of the feature more widespread than just the text-DEMO ever could be, and that is a positive for creators and customers alike.
