PROP: 1790 Sandboxes and "playgrounds"

Sandboxes are intended for building but have become nothing more than communual playgrounds. By halfway through the time before wipe the typical sandbox has half it's prim limit used and floor covered in items. Little actual building goes on in a sandbox and the performance tends to suffer from physics objects and scritped items left all over.

I think the problem is partly a perception problem, as sandboxes are open areas anyone can use people treat them as a playground. With the long return times intended for building this doesn't work out well and all the junk makes actual building difficult.

I propose that a number of playground sims be implemented for general use with a more regular (6 hour?) wipe period and that sandboxes be altered in some way to make it clear that they are for constructive use.

I feel the same way about sandboxes but a better system will need to be proposed to separate the "play" from the "serious build."

A legislated solution won't work because quite a few defy the already-simple existing sandbox rules (no shooting, no selling...)

We need something perhaps along the line of wiping the sandbox every 2 hours (or even 1 hour) except for objects whose owners are physically inside the sandbox at the time. An alternative would be no wipes, but objects are deleted if you've been out of the sandbox for 2 hours. This can be used for the smaller sandboxes like those in Morris.

In bigger sandboxes like Cordova and Goguen, big-build testers might complain if they get called away and have to logout for a while. The system has to be able to take that into account.

what about no linden sandboxes for accounts without payment infos on file?

So that someone like me, who is a valid user, who has no payment info, who DOES something with his second life--I build, script, and sell--is no longer allowed access to a sandbox?

(I actually do have my CC on file, and I've never used the LL sandboxes, but the ones over at FurNation, still, my point is valid for those people who registered with a cell phone ages ago and do what I do).

It's bad enough that payment info (even if not charged) is scaring away people who might have progressed towards becoming premium members.

It's also bad enough the new unverified accounts begin with L$0. This of course is necessary to prevent system abuse.

Some of these new people I hear can't provide payment info even if they wanted to.

You want new content developers to come in. You want new builders, artists, and scripters. Don't scare the possibilities away.

Right, exclude the people that need them the most.

What exactly would be the point of this? I mean, what problem do you think this will solve, and how? I can't get my head around it.

Just because we own land doesent mean we have 15000 prims.

I do agree that Linden's Sandboxes need to be better than it is now.

I'd say set 4 hour AutoReturn instead of wipe. Why? This way they'll hate to get system spam their chat screen and clean up their Lost & Found folder if they were stupid enough to leave bunch of prims all over the place. Wipe isn't teaching them anything.

Also... if youre a serious builder who really need a good sandbox, head to "Sex" Sandbox (it's not a sexual sandbox, mind you) It's one of the only sandboxes that IS being watched and clean up by hand. It has stronger rules than other common sandboxes and we do ban people who does stupid things to break our rules.
