I love the new sims, the new terrain texture feature ROCKS!
But... for god's sake, people, a huge island shaped like a starfish or octopus... isnt that a little freaky?
The land in SL just looks totally wacky on a global scale.
I'm not a geologist myself so I cant really explain it very well, but it just reeks of "fake". Can something be done about this for the next batch of sims? Thank you.

Those are just lights reflecting off swamp gas weather balloons.

Is there more detail posted anywhere on the new "terrain texture feature" Eggy mentions? I haven't seen any references to it.

(Yes, it WOULD be nice to go in world and play with it and find out that way... thanks for mentioning it... :D)

Anybody trying this out? What's it all about, Charlie Brown?

Lindens can now change the terrain textures on a per-sim basis. The new islands have a really nifty one, though Darwin seems to think it looks like There :)

They do remind me of There also. :P

Actualy *any* sim owner can reset their sim's textures.

Keep in mind most of that geology is going to be changed once people move in, maybe not dramaticly, but maybe slight enough.

I wouldn't mind them consulting a geologist, but really better time spent elsewhere. :P

Step 1, Take out the trees
Step 2, Flatten it
Step 3, Add a Casino/Store

Yay predictability, some poeple have awsome builds, but this seems too common for my liking, and makes me sympathize with the Lindens as far as how the sims are created, their staff artist probobly flies around the sim and changes the terrain before the sim goes live and that's good, that could take a day or more as is, geological features would take more time to create. Time better spent elsewhere as it probobly has a 50% chance of the above mentioned 3 steps would be done.

No offense, but if I want to see "accurate" geology, I'll look out my window. Creativity is what SL is about. Realism should only apply enough to suspend the user's disbelief and allow him or her to become emersed in the fantasy of the world. SL does this quite well, ocotpus shaped islands or no.

Wanting an imagined world to look, feel, and behave like the traditional world is a VERY limited view in my opinion. The more bizarre, the better.

have you seen the new thread in Second Life Announcements?

apparently Magellan will be off on another expidition.. to find the yang to Mt. G'al's yang.

yes, icy/snowy terrain.. including snow-covered trees to match!

in other words, either this was a long term goal non of us were aware of... or they heard us going off on this very subject. ..or SL is more real than any of us know and Magellan is the only one who can explore unknown regions.

however you put it.. i, for one, am excited about new snowy sims just waiting to be found.. and subsequently inhabited by SLers.

I like to see both types of geology. No point in deciding on one.

WTF is C3PO supposed to be USEFUL for anyway, besides whining? Stupid piece of scrap metal would be more useful recycled as a toaster. But even that would suck, because who would want to listen to a whining wussy toaster? Is he gold plated? If that's the case he should just be melted down into gold ingots. Help the economy some, and stop being so damn useless you stupid bucket of bolts! R2 is 1,000 times more useful than your tin man ass, and he's shaped like a salt and pepper shaker FFS!
