This is an idea that could allow for both those who wish for stipends to remain for both current AND new basic accounts, and also those who complain that these stipends are terrible and add nothing to the overall game play environment.
I suggest that residents who find "X" amount of confirmable problem issues with government owned/protected land...such as "phantom bugs" "blocked waterways" "misaligned textures" and other basic troublemaking items...be paid in Linden for reporting those problems and making the SL enviroment more user friendly and proper for ALL users.
It is a way to actually EARN Linden...while at the same time improving the experience for everyone. It takes quite a bit of time investment, and it would not a very easy job...but there are those who would do it...

Wouldn't everyone start looking for bugs (and creating bugs) instead of building stuff?

The OP was referring to Linden placed items that were faulty. Because of accidental partial deletions or other glitches. Not on user created content.

Creating "bugs"
05-28-2006 00:14
These are not flaws in the grid created by users on their land. They are issues with Linden Owned and Controlled Land. Areas where small errors have been made that already affect the community as a whole. Falling through government roads, for example, or land that has been abandoned and needs to be reclaimed by the Governor.
Overall, the amount of "pay" would not be so large as to encourage content creators to stop creating. Just a simple way for someone to earn Linden by doing something constructive.
It is very dull and boring, and I doubt many people would want to do it for long. But, they ARE out there, and they do need to be fixed to make the grid better for everyone. Once Linden personnel are notified these problems are corrected. They simply do not have the time to find them all on their own.

Content Errors

Thank you, Seronis, for adding that. Yes, Linden placed content as well as Land. Anything that is Linden created and managed.

As people go about their business and in the process come across problem with Linden land and its accouterments they will report them to the Lindens. Not every time, of course, but enough. There is a forum for reporting such problems, which has an ample supply of complaints to keep the Maintenance Techs sufficiently busy. I suspect the LL feels it has quite enough reports of problems and thus no desire to pay for more.

I know what you mean, and I know there is already a forum that allows for that in Second Life Land Management. I will admit I do not know how much "trouble" it causes for LL to go and fix these errors. Or if it would swamp them or not. I do know that the errors are there. As you said, as they are come across by some people....who know what they are...and how to report....and who take the time to log them....and then report them.. LL does seem to repair them within a respectable amount of time.
From everything that I have seen and heard so far, I have the feeling that LL truly cares enough about improving the quality of the grid that they would love to have as many imperfections removed as possible. Even if they do not have the time to do it all at once. At least they would be reported and logged. They could then be repaired whenever LL had the time. The roads have gone unbuilt for quite a while, and the world survives,...but they know where they need to be built.
Clearly this is a suggestion for LL to evaluate...if it is too much of a problem, I am sure they will be kind enough to say...."thanks....sounds good...but...We will take a pass on that one..." <laughs>
Though I would like to know just how much work and time it takes to go in and repair these things.
Linden feedback on this would be great.

In general, I think more employment opportunities would be great. If they take away stipends, there are two things in particular that I think they should pay for: Live Help and Mentors. They will have to figure out a way to only pay those that are active and helpful, but they are a huge asset to the community. Some recognition in form of cash wouldn't hurt, IMO. I also believe that if they revamp the group tools to allow for business/corporation groups where the members can get variable parts of the group's profit (depending on their role), would help employment a lot. I certainly wouldn't mind sharing some profit with partners/employees/helpers if there were a secure and easy way to automate it. They way things are now has forced me to have no employees and automate all parts of my biz because of: A) The huge amount of time it takes to organize and maintain an efficient team. B) Trust and monetary safety issues. If I were Robin Linden, I would have put together a team of residents to come up with an excellent corporate group system. I don't have any quick solutions, but I'm sure that a resident team lead by Lindens would be able to put something together, given enough time. This system could also be used to pay live help and mentors.

Job Opportunities

Yes, Moonshine, you have it right. Increased employment opportunities are fantastic for the economy. Greeters and Mentors provide a wonderful service and help to the community as a whole. There can be no doubt of that. I see no problems at all with economic incentives for this kind of work. There is already an "application and review" process of sorts to be come a Mentor as I understand it....does not seem like too large a leap to go another step.
I am also talking about the "Linden Corps" in the Land and Economy area in further detail, which is where I think most discussion of the concept behind it belongs. The economic and social issues connected with it are starting to go round and around there there in "Land and Economy", hopefully some improvements on the concept or even better suggestions may spring from it, but it certainly seems to be a touchy subject. If you want to add your thoughts on the merits or flaws in the idea itself, please feel free to add to the debate there.
I only posted it here as well for the purpose of developing some kind of "option" or "interface" that would be present in the program. So any suggestions on how that feature might best be added, if possible, are what I am looking for here.
