Howdy, I know that there IS individual editing in links in 1.6, BUT a key feature is left out that could be a major role in SL. What I'm talking about is editing individual properties of a linked object like physics, lock, phantom, and whatnot. Why can't we make a few prims physical to make a swaying bridge or have a swinging door in a prefab house while having it all linked together? I think this could really help out and I hope it is implemented during the reign of 1.6.x! Thank you. :)

How would a physical object relate to a non-physical object it is linked to? I don't get that?

Same with lock. How can you lock one prim but still move the rest?

As for making sub-prims phantom, that's been requested and may show up sometime well after a Havok upgrade.

i'm guessing linking a physical prim to a non physical would be like an av with attachments. when you have attachments they move with you but only you bump into things. they go right thru stuff. so a physical/non physical linkset would have physics applied to the physical parts but the rest would just be along for the ride like just for looks. no idea about a locked/not locked linkset tho. except if it meant the whole linkset couldn't move but you could edit the individual unlocked prims like with Select Individual and get at their contents and such.

Well yeah, I hadn't thought about locking. BUT a physical prim linked to a non-physical one would be exactly like a bridge. There is something at each end to keep it in place, while the middle is the only part that moves around. Also, something like electrical lines or rope could be made. (Wouldn't have to wait until Havoc 2) Also, the child prims wouldn't be like attachments in that they would only take on attributes you tell them to, just like a parent object.

Just though of something. Instead of individual prim properties, how about better joints with multiple joints supported? Ia THAT in Havoc 2?

Along these lines... Linking prims of different material types produces an object where all prims have the same material type as the root prim. I tried to make a house where some floors/stairs are stone and some are wood, but when I link them together, footsteps sound the same everywhere. Bottom line, I can't link my house up and preserve the correct material types.

there's a way to make linked objects that are part phantom and part solid in the 1.6 preview but it's a bug so don't get too excited.
