Just a humble suggestion. Would Linden consider , and would residents like, the option of listening to only the IM's of the group presently displayed by your av, rather than auto listen to ALL the groups to which you belong. I know I woould love to have only 1 group im'ing rather than 15. Is this a possibility for the 1.7 upgrade? Thank you for your time and consideration! - Z -

I think what might be more useful is a way of IMing a group which allows people to get offline messages. I know that most group IM is spam - but too many stupid mall owners use group IM to give important announcements even though they have been told multiple times that they are online only.
The problem is that the same idiots would lead to everyone having daily IM caps. However it would stop the weekly IM caps you get when 100 prims get returned to you (you were given notice - in a group IM sent at 2am US time a week before hand).
I guess this problem is unsolvable as whatever you do people will still spam and still be as thick as shit.
The big question is how can people have the rl money to be landholders if they are too stupid to follow simple instructions. Inheritance?

How about this, in the Info box for each group, have a checkbox for Receive Group IMs. In addition, have an option for Officers to send High Priority IMs, which would override that setting and be sent to people who are offline, but be limited in number to, say, 5 per day shared between all officers (ie, you couldn't get more than 5 high-priority messages from a particular group in a single day). That way, people don't have to listen to spammy groups, but officers can still get in touch with members efficiently if the message really needs to get through. And a daily message limit would prevent high priority messages from being abused.
