Many new people when exploring and not knowing what sl is all about,...inadvertantly end up in Ar or Tyros or other Gorean lands ,....and end up collared,...a WARNING spelling out the possable anoyances they are getting into would be VERY usefull,..to BOTH parties,.if they ignore the warnings then so be it,..but the option to cancell the tp would be very usefull

thank you

Since it's assumed we're all adults at the door (sans "teen amnesty week";), there's less of a fear of this.

But it's a good idea, and if anything, should be self-enforced by the sim owners to avoid abuse reports.

It seems to me that if you are involuntarily "collared" upon entrance to anywhere, that the Community Standards already well cover this. I know there are "cage guns" which have this effect and are also reportable "abuses".

So a suggestion to sim owners who might be doing this: you should likely erect a safe-zone at the tport area requiring some affirmative assent needed to exit the safe-zone and keep records of consent lest ye be suspended.

HI!

I cannot speak for other Gorean sims, but I can speak for the sim of Glorious Ar. The teleport hub is an enclosed area with only one way out. The visitor must pass through 2 phantom signs that are very clearly marked with the word STOP as well as spelling out in simple language how important it is to read the rules and laws BEFORE leaving the hub area. The signs are notecard givers that passes that information to the guest before leaving the area as well as a "Guest of Ar" titler that guests are supposed to wear.

Glorious Ar also has other sims on 3 sides, Gorean in nature as well. The gates on those 3 sides also contain the same notecard and titler on a phantom sign for the convenience of guests who enter the city via one of those 3 sims. As you can see, the Administration of the sim have made every effort to insure visitors have all the information they need to safely move around the city while they explore.

Many guests do not bother with this and as a result, sometimes gets into trouble. I know that I carry around both the rules and laws and a guest titler to offer to people that did not bother to follow directions in the first place. I might add that most citizens of Ar do the same, and will politely remind guests that they need the titler.

Also, there are no forced collars in Ar. The concept of a 'forced collar' in a consentual environment is a little hard to enforce. I have heard that other Gorean sims do have this policy. As a result of the differing rules of various Gorean sims, it is extremely prudent that visitors always read any notecards they are given before exploring the sim further.

Thank you :)

Ignorance of the law ...
12-06-2005 17:36
However harsh this seems, it is a good example of how different "countries" have different laws ... and one may run afoul of them before learning of them. I have heard of some people languishing in Turkish prisons because of a misunderstanding of local laws about possession of a little recreational quantity of drugs. Or being caned in Indonesia for throwing chewing gum on the street. Or being jailed without counsel for 5 months because DHS thought you might be a terrorist.

I can understand how someone could miss some of the warnings at SL countries with "halt: warning" boxes if they were impatient to run in before letting the surround rez in.

My question is: In these "strict" countries with major downsides to misunderstands, can someone be TP'd in by a friend (or someone they thought was a friend) and suddently find themselves dressed for a hot dance club in a circle of slave traders, without ever stopping at the "halt: warning" box?

An easy thing...

Okeydoke, you know how when you currently send a texture to another Resident who's online, it pops up on their screen?

IT CAN REALLY GET ATTENTION!

I've seen some regions-with-rules that actually have notecard-givers, or in some instances, the textures spelled out on the wall as has been said.

This is not very intelligent, because in most cases, on repeat visits, I've been given the same notecards time and time again. And with signs, even those can get missed.

Something I've been thinking about is the following: sometimes when I visit a secure website, a security certificate comes up asking me to accept it. :)

Similar to how we already have a Preferences tab for Popups, in the longterm view of SL, with all these emerging continents with their own rules, there could be fun "passport" things that you have to have a look through and comply to, before moving on. If you click NO, then your TP will be cancelled enroute.

Just the other day, when we logged in, there was an update to the Terms of Service that appeared. Everyone saw this, even if you didn't read through all of it. Text by itself is boring, so like a profile, I'm hoping that a continent in SL has a logo (not unlike a group's symbol), plus splash art, and then the text below. And this could be extensible.

This, similar like scaling Live Help for use by groups doing their own support, would simply be a Resident adaptation of what's largely already in the system. :)

I don't understand. How can you possibly get "collared"? Nobody can force you to accept an object into your inventory AND attach the object to your chest point, which is what it would take. What's being objected to here?

There are warnings in the Gorean Cities. If you do not wish to RP then simply leave, if you are over curious and wander around and get caught..........well you were warned. And well DUH there is always an X button, use it if you feel it is necessary. Wake up people. Don't go into places that you know NOTHING about. I would never walk into a place with a certain lifestyle and be rude to there ways. Good grief, treat people as you wish to be treated. And for gawd sakes don't knock down something you do not know anything about.

Open question re Teleporting in past warnings
01-16-2006 13:03
I'm still curious whether one can be teleported into the middle of a sim by a supposed friend, completely bypassing the owner's best efforts to push warning messages on new arrivals. Can it happen?

And my understanding of a surprise collaring is that the collared avi can just teleport home and never return to the scene, despite "cage" traps. The worst penalty is banishment from that sim. Is that correct? If so, SL collaring does require the consent of the avi. Am I wrong?

No one can be collared against their will in SL. You don't just walk into an area and a collar goes around your neck and you are automatically a sub/slave.

People should get their facts straight...

The worst someone can do is eject/ban you from the sim.

I don't see the problem.
