LL should make an SL "Harry Potter" metaverse

(after contacting JKR of course).

What could be in it?

* Things from the Weasley's home: Brushes that clean dishes like magic (dishes fly through the air from the dirty pile to the brush, the brush moves in circles over them and the dish texture changes from dirty to clean and the dishes fly to the cupboard). A clock on which the hands change to "HOME" with your picture on it when you get home.

* Wands which do magic: light comes out the end/ You can do the Harry vs Malfoy fight where the wands throw each other backwards/ other magical things actions.

* Flying cars. Flying brooms. < easy to do

* Hogwarts : floating candles in the main room and food that appears magically on the table. Hidden corridoors and doorways. Pictures on the wall with animated textures that look like people moving a'la the movies. Moving stairways. etc

* Quidditch: nuff said

* Whomping Willows - fun! Maybe they can whack you backwards 20 feet or something

* Hidden Chamber of Secrets - maybe with the snake in it

* Have two separate versions same as now - apart from the current SL servers, of course. A 'teen grid' one for the kids to play on and another for older people.

* Witches hats and clothing.

* Sorting hat

* Trolls walking around. Hippogryphs which you can fly.

The list goes on.

I know some of this will probably already be in SL and I know it's all doable even now before Havok 2. We have so many talented scripters, designers and prim-makers.

LOL, I agree we need more Harry Potter in SL! (however I suck at building...) Really want to play Harry Potter Quidditch. Heard someone is building a game, but not who or where or when and if it's finished. Also want a monument to Dumbledore...(if u read the new book, u will understand )

Linden Lab should build such a thing? No way in hell. If SL residents --- you, for instance, Vincent? --- want to build such a thing, well of course they're welcome to do that (depending on copyright considerations and all, I reckon) INSIDE the nascent metaverse the Lindens are creating and promoting. But to suggest that LL should focus their fierce efforts on something so specific and restrictive, well, I think that's extremely beside the point of SL. Which point is: to be something OTHER (even: infinitely much MORE) than just another genre-based World of Warcraft type-thing (or Everquest or whatever). Seriously.

(Although, yeah, I also think that Linden Lab should immmediately work toward distributing free copies of that gorgeous suit you were wearing at last night's Girlfight, if only because my bf Severin prolly couldn't afford one and *it looked so damned good on you.*)

And cease and desist letters, of course

Nope. I think they should create a separate metaverse a'la the banking one already in progress. Yes, I've already emailled JKR's publisher and asked them to pass it on.

I know we can already do it, but with so many IP problems these days, I'd rather not. I don't want to spend 6 months making a fantastic world to have it all deleted in one night.

i like the harry potter series, but im not one who would go all the way in SL for it. but the point is, "as long as your not making any money off of the harry potter franchise, and JK isnt loosing out on any royaltys that she would otherwise recieve, what does it hurt to turn a sim into the harry potter universe, and add all the cool ideas and functions you've just mentioned. i mean, ppl have done this with star wars, transylvania, and multiple other titles. the worst thing that you could possibly do is score tons of free advertisements and publicity for JK and her series by showing your devotion and loyalty. if anything, i would imagine she would find it flattering. so go for it.

Can't they teleport in that series of novels? Scratch that idea

On a related note, after reading this I'm frankly stunned that no company has started making a Harry Potter MMO. Seems a natural.

Sorry 'bout that to anyone who hasn't read the new book--a MONUMENT is a tribute to someone who is great, right. And we mostly all agree, Dumbledore IS great... am I making this worse Seldon?

Mage acadamies, flying brooms, wands, ghosts, wise old wizards, witches, etc etc etc are all common cliches - The only thing that really makes Harry Potter unique is the writing and the names.
