Attaching objects to other avatars

Just my own thoughts on this one. It's a bit of an advanced scripting "wish-list" item, but the possibilities would be great.

As it currently stands, we have the function llAttachToAvatar. This function works great if you are the owner of an object and wish for an object to attach to yourself. This is where the usefullness ends.

What I would love to see is a way that I can have an object I own, attach and/or detach to another avatar but still remain under my ownership. Something like integer llAttachToOtherAvatar(key TargetAV, integer attachement_point) or the likes. As for managing the perms, the current llRequestPermissions mechanism is perfect as it will prompt the target user and give them the choice of allowing this to happen.

In my case, I'm working on content that needs to interact with other avatars and attachment based would be my best route (animating, key control, physical movement, et cetra). Problem I run into is that, I need to give the object to the user, and have them atleast rez it or attach it to themselves. While generally this is no biggy, I'm trying to get the user's experience to be as "autonomous" as possible and require as little effort as possible on their part. As my thought process goes, "I'll do more work now, so the user has to do less work later."

For the moment being, my work around is to have the object external to them, and try to manipulate them using physics pushes and animations. While this works, I lose access to allot of the functions of the physics engine that I'd love to use that would allow for more precise control of the avatar.

Anyone have any thoughts on this hairball idea of mine? :)

I like it, and actually posted this idea already to a humor thread of mine.

Could be useful, but might require some mucking through the permissions code. Permissions have been mentioned as "low priority" right now.

I can't speak authoratively on it, but by the looks of the docos, it appears that in the past you could do this. (Check the HTML file included with the distro, not the wiki) As for permissions, really, it appears an object can request this permission but has no mechanism to do the actual attach.
