I made a jira entry for this idea I've had since I started in SL. Vote for it if you think it would be a good idea!

I think it would be awesome if they had "space" sims above the main grid where you would cross over to at about 1000m. No gravity, no ground although you'd be able to own "land"...perhaps measured in cubic meters?

I realise it's an ambitious task to make such a thing and integrate it into SL, but I think it would attract a lot of people that are into space and whatnot. I know I'd spend most of my time in space if it was available!

If nothing else, zero gravity and a lunar landscape option for private islands would be awesome.

That would be cool.. I made a prop that had to do with adding more flight acrobatic movement. If it were zero gravity, your head shouldn't always be facing in one direction. But other than that small difference, just using your jetpack to fly really high seems to achieve such a feeling.

So it looks to me like what your REALLY asking is for added flight movement, flips, and what not.

One problem I can foresee without ground is the inability to create objects without a surface..

I want weightlessness and complete darkness! Also it would be key to have these types of sims "above" the main grid. But the key would be zero gravity IMO.

Well, you could always wear a box then drop it. No land is kind of more of an optional thing. If Private Islands had the option of Zero Gravity and constant night (I believe they have the latter option) all the builds could just be super high and you could treat the land like the moon or something. Having a lunar-esque option for terraforming would be smooth.

I really think it would be key to have something like this available on the main grid, though. Not all of us could afford an island to make such a thing happen!

would there be a way to use the "swimming/bouyancy" scripts to do this?

You could fake it with an AO with a funky hover animation...

I have zero gravity scripts and whatnot, but I'm talking a WHOLE SIM!! It's no fun when you're the only one playing space!

It would be nice (hint hint) if you guys who said you liked the idea would actually VOTE on the idea...

I know you haven't voted because I DID vote, and there is only one vote (mine).

Sheesh.

Would be cool, and should be relatively easy to do by simply turning the sim's gravity constant to 0.0. The question is what to do with physical objects that never come to rest, they could end up drifting along just fast enough to keep from the sim stopping them in place, but never slowing down. Perhaps a small amount of friction could account for it.

But it would be nice to have the settings available to the sim-manager, as well as the option to remove land/water. In my sim-idea (that I can't finance, pants) I would remove land since I don't need it.

As for total blackness, I reckon the new sky effects might help with that one =)

Faking it with AOs or whatever wouldn't cut it. At least not for me. Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle ALL THE WAY. If you're gonna do something, don't half a$$ it. In zero gravity conditions, your entire flight controls need revolutionized. IMO.

Anyways, sure cool idea. I'd vote on it if my computer I'm currently using weren't slower than (insert simile here).
