Okay, first off, this is an LSL suggestion, so if you don't care, stop reading.

Now, what I want is a PHYSICAL object type, along the lines of PASSIVE, SCRIPTED, ACTIVE, and AGENT.

ACTIVE does pick up physical objects, true- but ONLY when they're moving.

I know this has been suggested before, but pllleeeeaaasssee! I wants it :(

there may be a physics type

The LSL wiki says that the number 3 placed as a type into the sensor functions will return physical objects, or at least it appears to indicate that at physics?

Doesn't really make sense, seeing as how it's a bit system..

Yez!... along with, say, more returns per sensor event and.. and... the usual.

Makes sense to me... 3 is just the decimal equivalent of 00000011. Two flags on. Oddly enough, is that not exactly equivalent to AGENT | ACTIVE?

I was under the impression that PASSIVE would detect non-moving physical objects... but then again, the sensor flags have always been a bit of a mystery to me. :D

I fourth the notion!

the bits listed there are

1,2,3,4,8

It makes perfect sense... All agents are active by their very nature. Therefore it's redundant to add the type of "Active" to an object... And no agent can be scripted... Therefore, it's sort of a cheap hack they threw in to find only physical objects... I think... could be wrong...

Physics type might well be a good idea.

I find the way the types are done confusing. A straightforward physics bit that would be set for agents and moving or resting physics enabled objects probably is a good idea just as Lance said in the original post.
