I was just thinking... why not have a building thing off of secondlife? That way lag wouldn't be a problem!

It would save what prims were used along with textures and would be saved to a file offline.

Then you go online and just upload it! There'd be some type of calculator for it too so SL could charge for it. I hope we can do something like this.

This is - and I'm sounding like a broken record now - one of the most popular feature requests of all time.

The short answer is the Lindens will likely not do this, since it would require a significant investment of manpower and force them to "automate assets" - something they've been trying very hard to not make possible on the current asset-server architecture.

The long answer is there are hacks under development for this sort of thing.

The propaganda is I'm working on one such hack that should go to the beta stage within a month or two for Blender. It's not a Linden-endorsed product per se, but I'm hoping folks'll find it useful.

I'm looking forward to trying the Blender work you've been pursuing. I've not played with Blender in years and this would be a good reason for me to load it again.

Ironically, this is my "learn the Blender API" project to boot. It's come along pretty well, and taught me the Python interpreter really gives MEL a run for its money. More so now that the entire Python build piggybacks with the Blender install.

Though it still has a ways to go. The interface is still a bit "clunky" with OpenGL when I run it in Linux; the Windows version is just peachy, though. And the whole thing is still too reliant on memorizing hotkeys for everything.

Still, for free, I give Ton, et al credit for the tool. Maybe this year they won't turn me down for the Summer of Code entry, either.
