All,
My idea would allow you to carry a thumb drive with SL installed on it and be able to run it on almost any PC without having to install it there first. I'd like to see a version of SL that's either U3 or CEEDO installation compatible.
For those that don't know, this is an application development specification that lets you actually install your app (SL in this case) on either a U3 or CEEDO compliant flash memory device - such as a USB memory stick, SD card, etc.
The reason for doing this is so that you can take your SL access with you wherever you go and run it on any system that has a USB port or flash card reader. This could include internet cafes, kiosks, libraries, your work desktop, etc. where installing programs and modifying the Windows registry is not permitted. U3 supposedly leaves fewer traces of your activity behind (temp files and other objects), so it would be preferred.
There is a developer toolkit available that the Lindens could use to create a U3 version of SL that would install on any compatible memory stick. The U3 developer forum is FREE, and includes the toolkit - http://www.u3.com/developers/forum/toolkit.aspx.
If enough people like this idea, I will put this in the Feature Voting Tool - and 500 responses will make sure that the Lindens consider it.
Thanks for reading my idea, and please respond!
