I'm sure this has been discussed in other places, but I just figured I get it started again :)
I'm 35 yrs old and grew up in the ye olde internet days of IRC (effnet, etc) basic text chat client like OLD ircII clients and then saw the explosin that was mIRC and others. Well, as with everything else, mIRC and similar became popular because of the many user functions they simplified. i.e. archiving, highlighting, timestamps, scripting. Not to mention all the IM chat clients.

Well given that SL is afterall a comunity based on personal interaction and not necessairly game play, I can't help but wonder why features that are so popular in most chat/IM clients are missing from SL. Isn't SL a huge graphical chat/IM client in many ways?

So common! How about some simple features that everyone is used to elsewhere anyway?

Archiving, timestamps (of course in SL time), highlighting, NOT having the IM windows time-out (wth?), simpler scripting (just for the chat/IM, not SL overall), maybe even some of those silly ass emoticons, i dunno.... just more than there is now...

Archiving and timestamping are my biggest problems with the current system BTW.

OK, commence ur slaughtering ;)
