I'm a relatively new SL user.
I find it very annoying that the icons used at left in search (All) are not displayed on the tabs across the top to the right to identify each category....
I am also bothered that a search term is not retained in the box when clicking between category tabs.... (In other words, I'd like to put one search term in All, then click the other tabs one at a time and thus see the returns in effect automatically filtered by category....)

That's not a half bad suggestion.
I'd never used search (All) because I generally know what I'm looking for. "Ginko" in places is more likely to get me a TP to one of their ATMs than "Ginko" in all, due to the 60 odd people, 40 odd classifieds, and the 3 groups--all of them extraneous information.
But that's where your idea has merit. Being able to move between tabs and keep the same search. It's happened a few times where I want a person and open up in places and get "none found" because I wasn't paying attention.
Now, to counter that, there are times where I'd like to save a search I did in one catagory while I do a search in another.
