I don't get why hair has to have a range of different sliders to all the other color selectors?
All it means is that its near impossible to match up your hair color to the color of, for example, hair attachments, which are extremely common these days.
Why oh why oh why can't we have a straight forward color picker just like we have for objects, so that we can EXACTLY match the color we want?
Hell, if you want, keep the other sliders too. But give me the ability to make my hair ANY color I want, not just what you can mix up with a few basic boring haircolor sliders.
(I woulda put this in a certain other thread, but a certain other thread starter seems very protective of the certain thread)

Yus... maybe there should be a little disc icon of a rainbow palette or somesuch thing -- and you click that and you can go to the familiar color selection boxes from there. That would be grand.

Eye and skin color, while we're at it. Possibly lip color. Really, anywhere that has color selection, especially "wild", ought to do this.
Possibly it's a data storage thing? If they only allocated so much space for the position along the color slider, they may not have enough space in the asset record to store a full RGB hexidecimal description?

yus. forgot about eyes n nails n lips etc. same as. As in WHY CANT I HAVE BLUE LIPSTICK???? But, Neko, stop giving them potential excuses And surely a two digit position on 3 or 4 sliders is about the same length as an rgb combination? possibly more?

I totally agree, there should definately be the same image editing style colour selector for hair and similar. Then you could set preset colours and it would be a walk in the park.

Lash, that's a great (and cute!) way to make a feature suggestion.

The only reason I can think they wouldn't want to give us full colors for av colors is that it takes 3 bytes for each color instead of 1. Seems like a piddling diff in download cost, even multiplied by 30avs, which is the most you are likely to see anywhere.

I suspect the real reason they never did this was because the slider system was devised separately (and possibly earlier, though don't quote me on that) than the colour picker. And, possibly, because the Lindens didn't anticipate the demand for it (as with the "clothing" metaphor, rather than just giving us a half-dozen texture layers for torso/legs/skirt/head/hair/eyes) OR because they planned to change it later and just haven't got to it yet.
It makes sense to update the Appearance menu, but it doesn't have to be in huge steps. This would be a good start.

This would be good. Tbh I think the slider system needs work - it always grinds to a halt for me - just clicking on the colour you want would make it so much easier.

A-men, this would make life better. If you use the skin color slider you get mostly neon bright and artificail looking colors. Give us the ability to use the color picker to define any color. Currently I can get neon blue but not true black? I want a subtle shade of green but I can only get a harsh shade... bleh, it sucks. Yes you can use tatoos but that gives you one less layer to use.

Using the color picker for builtin avatar colors would be nice. Using the current color sliders, I can't find how to get the dusty gray-brown I'd like, and resorted to using a grayish-brownish texture for upper and lower tattoos. (And set the skin to black so it wouldn't be noticable in any non-tattoo spots) For that matter, being able to color/tint the tattoo textures might be nice, too. (Wow, I just noticed this is an old topic, but still... I like the idea.)
