recently I experianced attacks on a couple of sims and found out from more experiance second life AV that such attacks are actually common

after watching what the sim officer and the Linden had to go through to end the attack I came up with the idea of a resurved command usable only by the owners of a Sim and those they authorize to administer the sim

when an attack simular to the ones I experianced happen someone sets off a large number of processor intensive programs, like a couple dozen fireworks boxes

I suggest a command that will pause all animations on the sim and compile a list of all active anims within a set time, maybe five or ten minates

the list would be given to the sim officer and list the active animations by the number of each active one and who ownes it

the officer could then select the anim and kill it and all copies of it running at that time ending the attack

the list with owner names attached could then be forwarded to the Linden staff with comments by the officer so the offending attacker can be delt with by the company as needed

by giving the command a high priority it should cut in early in the attack phase shortening the time needed to handle the problem

if this command is implamented it would allow the officers to server thier useres faster and reduce the workload of the online Linden staff

this is my first post, as such I want to thank the Linden staff for thier good work and the company for offering something I love so much :)

While this is a novel idea, I don't see how this would be a good thing. For example, near my home sim, there is a person that runs multiple 9+ script prims constantly. Yes they're pretty, but the induce much lag for the other people in the area.

Is this to be considered an attack?

One would think so, since these decorations are so processor intensive, but the intent of these may not be construed as malicious. This would depend on perspective. The owner of these prims (who also owns a majority of the land in the sim) would not, but the participants in the nearby club do.

Is the owner using these prims as a passive attack to help drive out everyone else and thereby gain cheap land? That's Scooby Doo stuff right there.... "If it wasn't for those darn kids...."

Either way, I believe that this proposal would cause more problems than it would solve.

A better idea would be to look at proposition 244 in the voting section, and help get support for it, some of the measures wanted are different levels of outside script blocks, like pushing etc, set in the land tab, not only for private islands but all landowners in sl, other measures include a list of people who you would like to give access to the ejection facility of the land without giving them access to being an owner, ie group officer or you want to keep the land in your own name.

the command would be usable only by the sim owners, if they have a problem with someone they have sold land to or one of thier regular users then yes there are better ways to handle it besides this command

this is intended to give a tool for sim owners to identify strangers on thier sim who are suddenly cousing trouble

if they use the command and find the name of one of their known users is thier problem then I would assume they would do something about it, after all if you have 100 users do you allow one to have the privladge of useing up the processor cycles?

I would not, I'd find some way to handle it
but agian this is not intended to affect land users or known users just attacking strangers thats why it would give a list for the owner to examine and allow the owner to decide if the person should be stopped or not

like all tools it may be abused, but if the owner of the sim and the ones they authorize are the only ones who can use it then what do you call abuse?

There's actually such a command in existence - the "Outside Scripts" toggle in the land window.

Unfortunately, this only works up to 10 meters above the height of the land in the sim. This is a huge oversight in the case of island sims, which do not see considerable "foot traffic" in the form of scripted vehicles flying over their land.

Similar to this, an llReturnToOwner command should be added to automatically remove items within a given criteria. This is another one of "those things" that would make our second lives that much better.

Oh, and an llNumberOfObjectsOwned for specific avatars in a sim would be nice, too.
