I would like to know the rules for group forums, for example, can they made viewable by everyone but postable to only by group members, can they be made such that posts don't appear until they are approved by moderators, do the resident moderators have to install any special software to do the moderation with; however, I am so far unable to find this information.

Tried sending Jeska a PM? Why? I would like to see Jeska's answer to this. It is an interesting question and I have always thought along those lines. I don't know that I agree that moderators have to approve a post as a moderator has the power to remove one. But it sure would be nice if their Forum was only postable by a group member. And it would be great if the Goup Forums were not pulled up in with all of the other posts when one does "Quick Links" then "New Posts". But that maybe asking too much. _____________________

Eh? My only purpose is to point to the only source of information I know for that answer.
Just prod Jeska and get a response here. ![]() _____________________

I did send a message to Jeska and asked her to move this to a more appropriate forum, I just put it here by mistake. The message is still in this wrong forum.
The place where this information (and all of the information about SL) should be is in the SL Support Wiki, which could really use some intense editing. It has a lot of information in it but I think the way it came into being was to gather up a bunch of existing information and stick it into a wiki and it still has that sort of hodge podge non-structure. I will send another message to Jeska. _____________________

(Fyi - for questions like this, it might be better to post them in the Hotline to Linden for prompt reply!)
The group forums are viewable by all, their purpose is for the use of groups which have attained at least 20 members to discuss and wish for a more specialized space to plan out things without having to leave the Second Life forums. Anyone can post to group forums, just as they can anywhere else in the forums. The Resident moderators are able to moderate the group forum they have requested, this means they are able to delete or edit threads/posts within that forum. There is no special software needed for this, as it is built into the forum software. |

Sadly, it has been my observation that the Hotline to Lindens forum is the last place one would put a message for quick reply, although it is sometimes the best place to get an answer that has any authority to it.
Also, I was not directing this question to Lindens specifically, there being a fair likelihood that one of the thousands of knowlegeable customers might know the answer. In a previous message from Jeska she stated "Please note that your group must have at least 15 members to qualify for a group forum in the SL forums." - not the twenty she stated in her response above. So either that part of the policy has changed or the absence of a publicly viewable set of rules is allowing ambiguity and contradiction to appear. Since this does appear to be staying in the feature suggestion forum I will make some suggestions. One, reduce the number of members in a group needed for a forum to ten. Two, if it is possible to make the forums restricted to group members, please do so. Three, if it is possible to to make forums in which posts don't appear until after moderator approval, please do so. Four, try to find a way to archive group forums that were started in jest or for groups that failed etc. _____________________
