While we have a shnazzy new forum theme it's a tad... painful on the eyes for late night viewing. I prefer a nice dark theme without much in the way of bright colors.

Members of boards I run like the dark look and it's easier on the eyes than something bright.

And I'm sure a few Lindens in the office prefer the "White text blue background" setting in Microsoft Word.

Sure, if that's what you're up for, you know, customizable skins would be great -- a GREAT example of this, running on a different BB system but same principles apply, are the DEADLIKEMEONLINE.COM forums. Their default looks like this:

http://www.deadlikemeonline.com/forum/index.php

Which is very Halloweeny, but once you log in, you can tweak it to a bunch o' presets. I have mine to a very pink-and-white one which reminds me more of Valentine's.

Is this possible here for those who are uncomfortable with the current scheme? :D

I prefered the darker colors too, but I'd also prefer a choice. Default themes (or a color picker) would be nice.

I endorse this, forum themes would be wonderfull.

Customization is what SL is all about, should extend it to the forums as well. :D

I wholeheartedly agree - that way everyone can pick from a selection and find what they prefer ! :D

I am used to my pc in the dark at home and this lights up the room, and at work - it lights up my office

A study I read once said that the color blue in viewing is the most painful to the eyes. This scheme is all blue. (Technically, red on yellow is supposed to be the easiest to look at for long amounts of time.) I miss the dark dark shades, too. Like, a lot.

I've been saying all along, bring back the old forum theme. I don't know why LL decided on these colors. Trying to light the office? :D

If there's no dev resource available to contruct a theme config panel, just provide us with a chunk of XML that we can modify, eg. in a box in User Options, and parse it on login. Just ignore the box entirely if the parser barfs on junk.

having customizable forum skins would be excellent! i also agree that SL is all about personal preferrances and expressions.. and that extending that to the forums would only be a logical step to take.

i know this new color scheme turns me off from hanging around here too often, or for extended periods of time.

I'm all for new themes, and I realize that everyone has something different that they like for the overall color scheme.

I think we could arrange something like a contest where everyone can post a theme based on a screen shot of the main forum page, thread view page, and reply page. And have members vote on the themes they like. And the winner would get a prize arranged by the Lindens and have their name appear somewhere in one of the theme's images saying "Theme by (SL Member)".

This colour scheme is fine for me. How Daemioth could say that yellow print on red would be more restful, beats me! Was that study done by someone with red/green colourblindess? That would figure.

But having said that, themes would be nice. :)

Cheer up, gothys :D

Change is good... I like the new color scheme on the main website and the forums a lot more.

The old colors were far too dark and depressing. If you want, most browsers these days let you override color schemes. =)
