Full Transparency

This post is based off the assumption that it would be easy to change the maximum transparency possible to be set by hand to 100.

It always puzzled me about how the transparency was limited to 90, and one would have to either use a script or a transparent texture to achieve full transparency. With the ability to set transparency by hand, load times might be slightly faster, because we wouldn't have to load everyone's transparency texture that they use.

The transparency in the edit window should be able to be set up to 100.

Is there any (decent) reason not to do this?

I'd always assumed it was so newbies didn't leave invisible prims all over the place.

Would be kinda nice to be able to set it to 100 manually though.

I see no real need for this. I just make a small snippet script that change any face with 90 transparency to 100. And all's easy.

Yep. By preventing a person from creating a 100% transparent object manually, it ensures they at least have a minimum knowledge of the edit interface, and reduces the odds there will be lots of invisible cubes all over the sim.

It is also my understanding that 100% alpha objects are noticeably harder to select, whereas even one with a slight percentage of opacity can be selected with the cursor.

I have no problem at all selecting prims that are 100% alpha textured. You just turn on 'highlight transparent', and you can see them clearly. That is all one needs to do to find 'missing' 100% alpha prims.

While I understand the desire to slow down newbies from making and losing invisible prims, I really would prefer being able to just set this to 100 with the sliders, rather than a script or a custom texture. When I make wings and other things that need transparent edges, I use a '100Alpha' texture that I had to make and import. I am sure hundreds, if not thousands, of other people had to do this as well. While I know now that there are ways to do this with scripts, it's a pain in the tail to do it that way when affecting a complex object.

Mmm...do you think maybe I should put that small script of me to the script library or somethings? It make my live pretty much easier while working with transparent prims.
