Theres been a lot of talk today about not wanting to lose your view when people move in, or people ruining a theme, or people who have neighbours on at them that thats what they're doing..
One thing that was suggested was to only be able to see objects on the parcel you're on..
Other options I've thought about (without know anything about what it would take to implement), are "See only my objects".. Or a sort of Mute Object button, similar to when you mute an object or person for sound, to be able to mute either individule objects from being seen and/or a specific owners objects.
I think something like this would help reduce a lot of conflict between neighbours..
Thoughts?
Anyone who agrees with me and is a lot better with words than I am want to start a proposal?
Thanks!

As you prolly know, Zap... we already have clientside functionality for this in a hacky way under the DEBUG menu. It's called "HIDE SELECTED", and altho it doesn't work when the Edit window is closed, I sure don't see what the gross harm of a fuller implementation is. It's a visual, as opposed to a textual mute, and could very well go hand-in-hand when you're having troubles with someone. The general counterargument is how it'd "fragment society" and reduce the "meaning" of having a geographic map in SL, as opposed to nonEuclidean spaces and pocket universes. Or, as some like to say, "destroys a sense of community". However, the fundamental for me is people should get along better, and if they can't, whelp, then hiding their build is a convenience offered by SL that you can't get offline. Beats me why we have all these wizardly technotools at our disposal but often can't do the most basic of things: being nice.

I only learned about Hide Selected a couple of weeks ago! But I did think about it writing the post.. My only worry was, it being rendered and shown before it knows who the owner is.. As hide selected doesn't need to know..
The other thing I was thinking about while writing were some of my *cough* earlier builds.. I bet people wanted my blood.. No one ever said anything though.. Except someone who was after my land and thought I was a clueless newb.. Mwahahah..
I see the point about community.. But if you feel someones build is ruining the feel of the sim you're in, inwardly or outwardly you'll probably resent them a little bit.. And it'll probably ruin your feeling of community more than seeing it all the time..

Bottom line is that its a personal choice. If you don’t want to be apart of the community, that’s your choice.
If you want to sit in a black box and look at a wall.. Who else would that effect? No one... only your personal view.
My concern is more for people that deliberately attempt to disrupt a community for profit, attentions, or just plan meanness. If there is nothing to prevent someone from building a 6 story bright blue and yellow sign, on an parcel of and right next to the land you just paid hundred of dollars for, then by god you should have a choice not to see that. Especially when that person knows it will be a disruption, and is counting on you to buy that land just to take down the disruption. Often for over $100 REAL money.
Just my two cents.

So you have your mute objects checked. Now do you look over and see avies hanging in space all over the place that should be in the attic of their sweet new castle having strange, tantric avie relations in private?

That would be a small price to pay. But good point. Then you could just mute anyone’s wall.. Darn you.. lol
Um, well, perhaps mute Parcel then, and all contents, including Avs.

Perhaps they should get objects viewable first before trying to make them non-viewable. From: Philip Linden You can have your view in any color you like - so long as it is grey with a white border.

From: Introvert Petunia Perhaps they should get objects viewable first before trying to make them non-viewable. But it's a solution for both problems, no?
