We already have the setting in Preferences to limit how far our draw distance extends, but we used to have a feature that allowed us to set it on a per-parcel basis. This was very useful for having small enclosed spaces like clubs, where lots of people might be at an event, and where the lack of windows simply didn't make sense for the client to bother with knowing about all the stuff in the surrounding sim.
It's yet another removal of a useful feature. If the rationale behind scrapping useful features is to make SL easier to use, could we at least have a toggle in Preferences that turns on all this stuff?

I totally agree.
Many avatars together (ex. an event) all having a large draw distance really bogs down a sim. Im all for putting this feature back, and all against removing any more features.
Perhaps, for the people who didnt like the feature in the past, making it so that the local-land-draw-distance-limiter only affects you if you're x meters from groundlevel.

Or better yet, add an "override land draw distance" checkbox to Preferences -- that way, people can decide whether or not they want the land to tell them what to do.

Hmm, it would be nice to at least be given a reason for the removal of features. Even if we don't agree with them it's better than being in the dark.

They removed a LOT of features in 1.2 -- we had to plead to get things like the no build/no scripts indicators reinstated. There wasn't really any explanation given, either. I think that it was either a mistake, or they were attempting to simplify the UI.

Yes! Bring this back! I could use this extremely much right now. I thought it did exist and when I baught my first parcel of land I tried to figure out how to do it, but by then the feature had been removed so I was left in confusion thinking I was nuts and it never existed in the first place. So YES! Also the over ride option would be good. Is local lighting also effected by this? Say theres a light source x amount away and the parcel is set to stop rendering before x, would people still see the light coming from the light source? If so, could this be prevented? I would love to have it where no outside lighting effected my build at all, maybe even add a "don't let outside lighting spill onto my ground" option for parcels but I'm getting off topic... Bring it baaaack, or atleast give a reasonable explination as to why it isn't back.

Bring back taxes while you're at it, or even go back to when there wasnt an economy. And bring back the spiral prim. And the wheel joint. And all the cool linden builds that got deleted. And the wildlife. And shooting trees and watching them catch fire. And the more realistic water they had in the beginning. And the ability to build your own avatar instead of covering up a human one =)
